Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 4:45AM. Mainly sunny. High 102F. Winds light and variable.

Good luck with the skunk, Bird. It'll be nice to have it gone, but I'm not sure I'd look forward to the process of getting it there...

I guess I missed it, David, but what prompted the repair on the flail mower? Did you get tired of replacing belts on the old multi-belt setup?

Good find on the portable hot tub, Drew. Never knew there was even such a thing, yet that Amazon page provided links to a bunch more makes and models of 'em. Please hurry up and get one so we can see how well they work, OK? Is 104F hot enough to do any good for an old man's aching muscles?

Yesterday I got the security cam mounted on the solar panel pole at the front gate, and moved the pole to the new pivoting anchor. The two 3/8" holes in the pole were drilled without damaging the wires inside, and the only trouble I had with terminating the little Ethernet wires was forgetting to install the weather tight grommet in the camera before the Ethernet connector was put on. I took a guess at aiming the camera, and it turned out to be pretty much spot on, maybe the biggest surprise of the day. Another surprise was that the camera worked without any extra fiddling, and another surprise was finding it captured the UPS man dropping off a box that held the repaired cylinder for the red G/S motorcycle:
Maybe the UPS man saw the new cam, because it was the first time in quite a while he bothered to lock the drop box, even though he managed to make quite the noise when he closed the lid.😂

I wasn't quite so lucky when it came to the orientation of the solar panel on the pole, so I'll address that today. Also left over for today was getting the muffin fan installed on the network switch, but I did get it out of the box and verified that the thermostat on it worked. I'll also get the heads out of the dunk tank and take a first shot at scraping off the gunk. It usually takes multiple rounds of soaking to get all the deposits off.

I was told the building isn't worth fixing, but I can't just leave it alone. It's a converted corn crib, with a fairly decent concrete floor. I've been working on this roof/building for a few weeks. It's been blown off for 20 years, apparently. The other side is intact, but alot of the nails are loose. I've got all the rotted/busted wall studs, roof rafters, sill/top plates repaired/replaced. Now to get up and fix the roof. They left me some used steel roofing, so now I've got a lift reserved for tomorrow. They're calling for rain now. Figures...

good luck gstrom, just don't fall.

102 was my setting before, am happy with that, maybe 103. None of those units are particularly accurate.

Intex has models that I really liked, but some issues with getting parts. Figured Coleman would be better with that.
yes to concerns over moisture. Need to keep it covered at all times when not used. I run a dehumidifier in basement all the time too, stays around 50%
I will watch that carefully.

Good Morning
It was 68 and foggy when I got up, it’s sunny now and headed to low 80’s.
We got just shy of an inch of rain yesterday and overnight. Things already look greener.

Yesterday started with a muffin delivery from Drew, and I had to break the news to him that the dull bits were for wood and not able to be resharpened, at least not on my grinder. Rest of the day was spent doing chores and cleaning up.

Today I’ve got to go to Portland,ME after lunch. Looks like UPS just dropped off some parts, so I might get a quick fix done before getting cleaned up and heading out. Only good thing about the drive to the airport is that I go right past a HD in Philly, and they carry the charcoal that I like for the smoker, so I’ll stock up.

Drew, I’m with Ken, about the humidity being a problem putting the hot tub in the basement, not to mention the logistics of draining it.

Drew - If your putting it in the basement and it's only for your use why not go for an inflatable bath tub?
linky

BEF, sounds like a fun, but long trip. Glad you got some mountain time. Mabry's is a great spot.
.

It’s 1400 miles round trip if we don’t stray, so we did pretty good.
Glad we stopped at Mabry, youngest hadn’t been there for a long time, and it was a nice diversion from the interstate and rain. Wish I had time to drive further up the parkway.

Our first time at the Cumberland gap.

I could put an inflatable woman in it too!
;)
I have a fully functioning heavy duty sump pump 10 feet away, fully tested, and with a tub cover on I don't expect much of a humidity problem.
If I do, I buy another dehumidifier. Cover will be on whenever not used which is almost all the time

spent an hour trimming shrubs, got a full load in golf cart, then plumber showed up. He's down lighting Havana cigars on my meter.

bottom line on hot tub is I have a 1000 dollar solution instead of a 15K one, which would include a new door to the back yard and a new deck.
Not my house, can't do it. So I have to assume some downsides, and that may be another dehumidifier.

What about a jacuzzi tub in your bathroom. Is this for social or therapeutic purposes?

   / Good morning!!!! #154,830
69°F and .46 inches rain. Overcast but only 11% chance Rain

So if it doesn’t rain I hope to get some seat time with the flail, but if it does then an inside day.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

therapeutic only, bathroom is tiny, would not fit larger anything.

plumber left, I figured an hour of work and it was.
had 200 in cash ready for him. 295, one hour's work, he lives 1/2 mile away on same road.
definitely underestimated local pricing.

David, I've been researching how to get to Hawaii by boat and which cruise line does it.
One way or the other I'm going to get to California, likely by train, and then just a little further right?...
luckily I don't care, more time on a boat the better for me.

Found one that comes into Hilo. That's the right island right? I also have to visit Oahu, not that I really want to, already went
there once years ago, but because a relative lives there and I have to see her. My second wife lives on Maui and I definitely don't have to see her.
Though I am curious. And I surely know what curiosity did to the cat.

cruise lines usually go to two ports. Going to take some research. Since Honolulu is most famous i would think
Oahu is common destination.
Regularly reading articles about preserving indigenous Hawaiian culture.
and how tourists like me are wrecking the place

we found Paradise, and it's full.

58°F and foggy this morning, going up to 84° today. Forecast calling for chance of rain much of next week. We sure could use some at our place.

Actually doing some Quality Jerk stuff in the office today 😮. Now I'm flooded with documentation stuff that hasn't been getting done while I've been out babysitting production folks for the last three weeks. So it goes.

Roy, I've had some conversation back and forth with the President of that company, but it's always been initiated from my end. He told me he was going to schedule a team interview each of the last two weeks, but hasn't. I'm taking that as not necessarily interested, and moving on elsewhere. I have an interview scheduled at another place next week. This one contacted me out of the blue. The hunt continues.

Still not caught up here yet either. Hope everyone is well.

Good morning, gents.

Found one that comes into Hilo.
The pipe organ company I used to work for built an instrument in 1962 for the Higashi Hongwanji Mission in Hilo. As the only Buddhist to ever work for that company, I spent a fair amount of time trying to convince the President to send me there for a "wellness check" on the organ. Didn't work, but I kept trying nonetheless .

RNG, yup, that gearbox bracket became severely distorted over time, aggravated by deforming the mower base of attachment as well. I’m sure that my gingerly use had nothing to do with it. Pulleys became badly out of alignment. A flat spot had worn at the point of the tension adjustment bolt. I was lucky to get thru a mowing session with a set of belts - getting expensive. As it worked out cost of the new bracket wasn’t much more than set of belts. Switching to the banded, cog belt is my idea, hoping for better utility. I also rotated the shaft 90° to avoid the flat spot and replaced the adjustment nut and bolt. Given that I’ve pretty much cut all the heavy bush and trees, I’m expecting an easier life for the mower.

Now I see flails with an adjustable rear door and wonder…

Good job. Nice video, sounds too. What camera?

Drew, interesting hot tub. Could make installation easier. Like mentioned, the moisture potential. Any way to mitigate a potential leak? Basement have a sump?

Wrote this before reading rest of the thread

Haven’t kept up, but yes, we get cruise ships, getting more regular lately. Usually land early morning, depart early evening. Go right past our house unless going south. When you do come you must let us know and we will pick you up at terminal.

Love that Japanese park, nicely done and popular.

77F and partly cloudy @ 13:00, heading up to a high of around 80F for the day.

Two more nice days in the 80's after today before the possibility of more rain moves in. Possibility of a 90F high by next Sunday, otherwise highs in the 80's.

Tracking reports that deer netting is 2 stops away.

Not sure what all will be on the agenda for today, but will probably at least finish getting that planting hole cleaned out and refilled with good dirt. Before I started on it yesterday:

IMG_1965 copy.jpg

Have an evergreen that needs removed over by the garage/wellhead, might take a stab at digging it up and seeing if it's worth relocating/transplanting.

Woman has announced that She "needs" to go to the grocery store and is making moves towards doing that. Comments that there is probably squash that needs harvested (ya think ? ...)

Deer netting delivered. Seems kinda lightweight, but if it works I won't complain ... ;)

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Tuesday ... (y)
