Good morning! 72˚F clear skies - our 7 days of rain were diminished to just 3 days (Thur, Fri, Mon) with a total of 1.75" - thankful for that in August. Irrigation system is back on for the yard but still off for the garden for a few more days.

I have one new tire on the Ranger that looses about 1 psi of air a week which is twice the air seepage as the other new tires so I will have to take it in today and make sure the seal is clean.

Morning all, going up to 89, another day

Good Morning.
It’s 68 with a high of 85 forecast under clear skies.

Yesterday I did get the grill maintenance done before leaving for Portland. Interesting trip, with thunderstorms in southern New England , but nice in Maine. We were able to get past the storms uneventfully enjoying a smooth ride.

Stopped at Home Depot in Philadelphia on the way home and got a couple bags of charcoal for the smoker.

Today Is the day for my wife’s back surgery, Daughter took her, they left at 4am, they left me in charge of the animals. The plan Is for her to come home today if all goes well.

good morning all
looks like a nice sunny Wednesday, about 90 out
off early to go watch tree company take down large tree in graveyard at church.
They will need some big equipment, tree is right near ancient stone wall, everything needs to be lifted out, nothing can
fall into graveyard. taking my Kindle and camera.

That KutKwik looks like something Gravely would make, heavy duty for sure. Looks like a competitor to the one I just saw at grange fair, though not articulated.

speaking of Gravely, lots of fun planned for tomorrow. Hooking up trailer and heading towards Fort Dix NJ tomorrow to retrieve "my" Gravely 8199 from friend's mother's farm, where
it wound up when my farm was sold. I was not going to let that favorite machine get away; gave it to a best friend. Now I'm healthy again, but no place to store it.
I'm going to go over it carefully and give it a good grease job. With its big comfy orthopedic seat, a new 23hp Vanguard engine, it's just a marvelous machine, now sitting doing nothing.
I really worked that tiny tractor on the NC farm, did all kinds of jobs. This was my weeding rig for going between potato rows.
It really should go to a home where it will be used more.

Zero turns took over the market and a high end garden tractor like this couldn't compete against the
mass production of big box John Deeres and Toros. It's the kind of old fashioned but still very capable machinery that just won't die if you maintain it.
All that weight over the rear axle like a VW Bug means remarkable traction. I got it stuck a few times until I put those ag tires on it. With the ribbed tires in front,
it has a nice mini agricultural look. But no poser, it knows how to work. Third pic is my BIL enjoying a little dirt time. He's the guy who did my avatar.
Note the white plastic on the deck edge. For mowing near gravestones...

I had four tractors on that farm and I think I still liked this best. Well the big Massey really was fun...

I was thinking Lou would like the design and simplicity.
And a hand clutch just like the JD B I grew up with.
I've missed it...

guess I'll be mowing the lawn this afternoon. Everything is super green out.
Maybe put that comfy seat on this one Drew.

Good Morning!!!! 77F @ 5:30AM. Sunny. High 103F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Looks like we dip down into the low 90s for the weekend highs, then right back up to the low 100s for next week. Summer continues unabated in the west.

That's a neat steep ground cutter, Paul. I'll look into it.

Solar panel up at the gate did get realigned, but not real happy with the shaky mounts. Good enough for now, but I need to come up with something more robust before the wind and rain comes this fall.
gatePivotPole.jpg

That camera is a Unifi G4 Bullet, David. I'm surprised that the audio is as good as it is. Next time I place an order, I'll add an infrared illuminator, as night images are too dark to see much as is.

Soaking the heads helped, but the ultrasonic cleaner worked much better. The tank isn't quite big enough, so it took several trips, rotating between, to get all the deposits off. Two done, two more to go. A trip through the blast box is next.

Happy Hump Day!

glad I supervised the tree work, no one else showed up but me.
When they started to drop larger limbs inside the graveyard wall, I had to stop the job and remind them everything
gets dropped outside of the walls. And that they were standing on folk's graves at the moment. That got some eyes wide open and they were a little
more respectful of making a mess inside the walls. Everything has to be done by ropes, and they can, and promised to finish that way.

Big trunk, and hollow. Next hurricane would take it down and wreck the wall. One more even larger tree behind it was estimated at over 8 grand to take out, with a bucket truck and big crane.
Have to reach into graveyard from outside.
Boy have we learned....no more big trees inside the wall, they go outside. But these trees were planted 200-300 years ago, and their time has come.
That oak smelled wonderful ground up by the chipper.

I was unimpressed with their equipment maintenance. When they took the tree out of my front yard, their grapple was broken. After they rewelded it and the weld broke.
Makes one wonder. Had issues with chipper today, constantly fiddling with controls. Sometimes standing safely to the side, sometimes guys with no eye protection in the thick of things.
Only takes a second or two. Rusting truck bodies makes me wonder also. Expensive cab body, ten bucks in white rustoleum and maybe ten bucks in rusty metal primer first.
I don't understand how folks don't fix stuff like this. I bet Buppies takes very good care of his equipment. Constant maintenance struggle.
and if you ignore maintenance you have a truck with one headlight out, broken fenders and a rusty body.
as long as they don't break our wall and our headstones I'm fine.

Noise was terrible on my ears, was sitting in car watching and had to roll up windows.

58°F and foggy this morning, going up to 85° today. No rain in the forecast here until Monday.

Drew, those Ventrac machines are impressive. Kind of in their own little class.

RNG, a quick Google search tells me you probably won't be looking too long at those mowers. "Base models starting around "$39k" ... Ouch.

Good morning, gents.

Today we are taking a trip to Hagerstown to check out this shop for Ag equipment and repairs, Maugansville AG and Industrial. Always good to have options other than using dealers for parts and repairs.

PJ, there's a lot of hardware there, and if their base is diesel, well, yeah. Lot of expensive steel.
I'd like to go back five years and see what the same machine sold for then. It's been around a while.
It could have a Kubota engine or something really good in it to justify the cost.
Those axles have to be strong to handle all that leverage from the super wide track.

I had an elderly doctor friend who needed one of them for a field on his farm. I mowed it with that Gravely because of its low CG, needed on one side of field where it went up a fairly steep hill.
I'm a real chicken when it comes to tractors and slopes, don't like them at all. I can see if you live near the mountains, like my brother does, he could use a mower like this for steep mowed areas on his VA property just near the Appalachian Trail. He uses an old Kubota front deck mower, also very low CG. Well thankfully now he pays help to mow.
We are getting too old for this hazardous stuff. Level ground is good. Tricycle wheel front tractors with bush hogs on steep slopes are not. Those tractors can be killers and I've seen
it with my own eyes. So if it keeps you safe, and you can afford it, yeah I'd spend the money if I had slopes I had to mow.

M7040, have fun poking around. Hope they have something interesting to look at.

That's a dear price, but the tractor was more.

But after seeing this, there are better solutions out there. Wouldn't take but one ride like that to park the thing for good.
At least it didn't flip.

68°F and .04 inches rain.

Grass was wetter than I like but I managed a couple hours mowing late in afternoon yesterday. Hopefully get some more today.

Need to get my catchment hook back up now the gutters got a rinsing. Not that involved, just put my two inline filters back in place.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

81F and a mix of sun and clouds @ 13:15, HI 83F. Heading up to a high of around 84F for the day.

Woke up at 04:00, spent some time looking on Amazon for wire clamps (like a ground wire clamp for multiple wires) to hook up electric fence. Didn't really find what I was looking for. Fortunately was able to go back to sleep.

Got three bags of mulch put down yesterday on the back border of the northwest planting bed The Woman recently weeded. It's almost done except for one little spot.

Also brought down a bucketload of screened compost and got it spread out behind the west planting bed to cover some tree roots. Then ran over it with the Cub to tamp it all down.

Four buckets of vegetable waste taken up to the compost pile and dumped.

Took the Stihl blower up with me and got the grass blown off the Cub while I was at it.

After I came back down I took the dump cart around back and hosed it off, along with the 4 buckets.

Terminated another chipmunk for the neighbor lady.

Got 4' tall chickenwire cage woven together for the west peach tree.

Did some string trimming along the driveway, plus around both peach trees.

Momma deer and three fawns out last evening browsing in the upper field:

Agenda for the rest of today:

Hose off Cub and refuel it. Pretty sure it is due for the another oil and filter change + air filter cleaning (350 hours)

Probably dry enough in the garden now to do some more planting.

See what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday ... (y)

The Maugansville Ag shop was a large Mennonite operation with a building for hardware and supplies geared for repairs to maintain tractors and farm equipment and then a separate building for repairs of hydraulics, PTO, gears and bearings etc. Prices looked good and they had supplies not seen in the usual shops such as Tractor Supply etc

I am trying to recover from hurting the shoulder using a pole saw. Those saws are fairly heavy when used in the extended position and I am not as strong as in my younger years. Ordered a set of rubber exercise bands in order to strengthen the muscles. We will see how it goes.

Down by RR tracks? I have a boom cylinder needs a repack on the seal.

I have used Royal Oak and B&B lump, but have settled on Kingsford Hardwood Briquettes. It’s very consistent and I get great burn times, the Brisket that I just did went 17 hours and I never opened the firebox, I had to snuff the fire when it was finished.
I do add a few chunks of smoke wood, but I’m thinking even that is a waste of time.

Thank you for the well wishes. She is home and asleep, minus one disc.
