How are you all?

Today I am cleaning up after the tree cutting and taking out the stumps. Some of them were pretty deep before it would come out but up they came. Taking a break and then level the ground and fill in the holes and move out the stumps to the hinterlands.. Very nice day with sun galore.

Oh, I so need a backhoe.

Oh, I so need a backhoe.
They are handy, if you have use for one.
I had one on my last tractor (Deere 4520). IIRC, it was a 448 mounted on a subframe. I really had no use for a backhoe...dug one hole with it and it was quite powerful for a CUT mounted 'hoe.
Anyway, I sold it after about a year. Most of that year, it was dismounted and sat on the lawn

The root ball has a lot of dirt in it making it very heavy to lift and it was at the limit for the loader to pick up. So dropped it and used the minix to hack some of the dirt off before moving it out

I have lots of stumps and some bamboo I would like to remove. It would be an ongoing task as there are a lot of dead trees around the property that keep dropping branches that I would love to get rid of too. I also need to do some trenching work for power and water pipes.

To be honest, I don't think your CK30 will have the "oomph" necessary for a decent backhoe
But, best of luck!!!

Good (Sunday) morning. Overnight Low was 10C and it's presently 13C with a stiff breeze. It's overcast however the rain stopped last evening... there was 41.9mm in the gauge at 0700 for over two days. The rain is predicted to resume late Monday for a few more days.

I'm off to Church soon then, after lunch, the 'Mad Horse Women' will be here to transfer the horses and help to rearrange the water-trough set-up.

Take care all.

Speaking of no hunting, neighbor at the lot has 3 no hunting signs posted along the road, and parked a truck there between them. Course hunters would be heading up into what soon will be my woods.
In Virginia:
§ 18.2-132. Trespass by hunters and fishers.
Any person who goes on the lands, waters, ponds, boats or blinds of another to hunt, fish or trap without the consent of the landowner or his agent shall be deemed guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor.
Does not seem to need to be posted. The land needs to be posted to ban trespassing.
/edit - to clarify - it looks like hunters and fishers require permission from the owner regardless of if it's posted or not. But apparently others, like hikers only need permission if it's posted.
In Mississippi everyone needs permission to go on other peoples land.
Whereas in Vermont they are proud of letting people go on unposted land.
The Vermont constitution has protected the right to hunt, fish and trap on open, private land since its drafting in 1793. Posting laws and regulations honor this commitment while also ensuring landowners have the protections they need to control their property.

A minix will do a good job for what you are talking about. I had a backhoe on the MF203 that worked really well but it does not even come close to what the minix can do. And with the thumb it can pick up branches up to 2000 lbs or more making it very convenient. Digging the stumps today took very little time even digging fairly deep on the big one. The lifting ability to load things and the ability to turn on a dime is great. And then the blade makes it easy to push the dirt back in the hole and then compress it with the tracks. I was not sure I needed it but now that I have it comes in very handy. The best thing is to rent one to see if you would like it before looking for new or used. The good thing about these is that they hold the value well so you can likely sell it for the same that you bought it for later. Also I generally use it on cold or hot days where it is comfortable with heat and ac.

The only thing "bad" about buying a mini excavator is the money required.
I have little need for a mini excavator...but if I did, I'd rent. Good planning for multiple tasks makes the rental worthwhile, IMHO.

Roy, agree they are expensive. In my case at least in my mind I justify it based on getting older and it allows me to stay on the farm and still do a lot of what I used to when I was younger and stronger

Took MIL to see the lot. Met neighbor to the north and discovered they are the neighbor from hell.
Not sure what I’ll do now. Will have to talk to closing attorney about options. Might just try to flip the lot.

October is typically one of the lowest months for rainfall here, so it's not entirely surprising ... although I'm not really sure how this particular month stacks up historically.(y)
I wonder if you couldn't incorporate some sort of tank to store water, with a level switch to shut the well pump off when it got full. Not sure how you'd keep the tank and plumbing from freezing in the winter, though.
