Good Afternoon
Today started at 30 and is now 60.

Yesterday started with a trip to the hydraulic shop to get some hose and fittings for the press.
Made great progress putting things away and scrubbed the food trays from the wedding now that I have an endless supply of hot water. I had previously rinsed them, but not properly washed them.
Loaded 300lbs of feed into the bins in the barn, got my wife’s car packed up for the farmers market and finished cleaning up the smoker.

Today I went crazy on the press. I added a winch to raise and lower the table, found everything I needed at Harbor Freight. I used a worm gear boat winch, and modified it to spool two cables at once. Repurposed some snatch blocks for the pulleys by removing the hooks and welding them in place. It works great after tweaking the cable winds a bit. So now I’ve got a foot controlled, pneumatic powered press with a crank up table.

Now I’ve got to back over to the shop and put tools away.

Got some chores done...doggy sitting was the priority though...
Tomorrow is another day, I reckon!

I got my driveway regraded today and a lot of the bigger rocks relocated.
Started filling the shelves in the garage. Summer windshield washer juice, which is a pink soap that I cut 50% +/- with -45 winter windshield washer antifreeze. That combination looks purple in the jug, but it cuts the bug guts off the windshield without leaving a soapy film. I've got 4 gallons of it. That is a start at least.

I see the snatch blocks I think on the top corners and assume the cables are running inside the web of the beam and using worm drive it can stop in any position. Very nicely done

Camp fire tonight. S’mores soon. When I first lit the fire it was 6-7 ft in the air. All dried branches from this summer. Now got some of the older partly rotting wood I kept when cleaning out wood shed last spring. Brought the pallet over closer from behind the barn.

Had late lunch at Olive Garden. Wife likes it, me not so much. Really dated place. I loaded up more on salad and brought some food home.

Very nice day here. i think it got up to 60F in the afternoon. I got the lawn mowed at the farm. The grass is still growing. The zero turn is keeping up with mulching the leaves although I have to make 3 or 4 passes to get them well chopped up. It saves a ton of time not to have to make a bunch of trips to the compost pile.

Diesel here is $5.96 at the station closest to the house and $6.27 at the station near the farm. I'm going to have to buy a can full soon.

I drove past the Toyota dealer today. There must have been 20 cars on the lot. That's the most I have seen there in years. Sometimes the place looked like it was out of business. I stopped In. They had two white RAV4s. Both had hold signs on them. I heard the sales lady telling a couple there would be a 3 to 6 month wait for ordered cars. Amazing when all the other dealers on car row have full lots. I wonder if it is a sales ploy. If I have to order a car why do I need a dealer?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Chris

Bout to watch the world series....we left Verlander in for an inning too long last night. No disrespect, he's a great pitcher and a great teammate. Tonight's pitcher didn't fare well last game. I hope he comes out hot tonight, or yank him fast if he gets behind.

Good piece on Dusty Baker manager of Astros...still wants to win his first WS.

watched Kansas State beat the pants off of the Oklahoma st Cowboys. Wow what a wallop.

Here's how bad of drought we have here...
Last year's 2021 total rainfall - 43.07"
Total so far this year - 17.31"
Total for October - 1.63" (1.6" of that in last 2 weeks).

Map only shows moderate to severe drought here, and they show the next county over even worse, but WE HAVE 2" LESS THIS YEAR THAN THEM. So the map doesn't tell the correct story IMO.

Ranchers are paying $100/bale for so so hay. Their pastures are barren, tan, no green, and only cow chips. The cows have nothing to eat.

Pop, great job on the press. Thanks for the pics! Does the pneumatic control give you enough of a fine control over the amount of pressure you want to use? Sorry about your FFA wasted $/time. I'm pretty sure our county airport doesn't charge to land. Not even sure if they charge for an overnight tiedown. They did have a courtesy car you could check out to go into town. Just in case your in the neighborhood and want to drop in.

Skunk? Chase it in your side x side, with a shotgun, and when it gets a couple hundred yards away, blast it. Preferably downwind.

I think that the pneumatic throttles pretty well, but I haven’t used it for real yet. I saved the hand pump and can mount, and plumb it in parallel if the pneumatic lacks the feel.
What is your local airport? There is no rhyme or reason as to what airports charge. A stop in Boston will easily cost $1000, jet fuel is just under $12. Palm Beach is $40 if I buy some kerosene at $6.75. Montgomery, AL was free.

Pop, moving the table up or down on my press is a pain for sure. Thanks for showing how you did it

We are KGYB, only 4000' long, 1 runway, small county airport, typical of Texas.

You’re welcome. HF had everything I needed, well almost. I wanted crimp type cable clamps, they had u-bolt type. Adding the center disc to the winch drum was the most time consuming part.

Good early (Sunday) arvo. A cold overnight Low of 2.6C with a heavy dew... probably also due to there being 2.2mm in the gauge. But there's a clear sky today and the outside thermometer is currently reading 20C!

I'm back from Church and I'm going to run the Z-turn around the house in a little while. YAY!!!

Tomorrow or Tuesday I need to make a run into Launceston. There're 3-4 things that I can accomplish so it makes the trip worthwhile.

That's about it, take care all.

48F and clear @ 21:30, headed down to around 39F for the overnight low.

Results from leaf blowing with the Cub yesterday on the west side:

Still more to do of course.

Reasonable progress today, given how late I got started.

Don't think I got out there until around 15:00 or so and I had to do a little dirt work and add some fill on the back side of the barn to level out the approach to the back wall before I could really get started.

Think I got 10 or 11 sections of gutter cover installed on the back side - which is more than half the distance - plus replaced a bunch of the hidden hangers.

What got done:

What still remains left to do:

IMG_2068 copy.jpg

Woman ran out to the grocery store for supplies while I was working on the gutters. She brought me a Taco Supreme from the Bell and a Coke over for a little snack after She got back.

Then She headed back over to the house to make some stuffed peppers for dinner. After She got those in the oven She came back over and started oiling boards.
Woman had just finished applying the second coat of BLO on the other side of the 2 x 8 x 14's when I pulled the scissors lift into the barn.

It was starting to get dark and cool off at that point so She headed over to the house.

I stayed for another hour or so.

Got a measurement taken for a panel on the west wall at the south end.

Dug out two more bays for foam board insulation.

Got the door jamb and trim replacement for the south man door ordered @ Menards. Went with the PVC this time around. They texted me that the order was ready for pick up before I even got back over to the house ... but I wasn't going to race down there to try and pick it up before they closed.

Also removed a broken rope on the south overhead door.

At that point I was getting hungry so I shut things down and came on over to the house for some chow.

Stuffed peppers with crushed red pepper and a little Parmesan cheese and a couple slices of fresh bread with butter ... was very tasty ...

Hope everyone had a great Saturday ... (y)
