11° was the low, but now 26°. Amazing how warm it feels after having negative wind chills.

Did sleep in some more, now to find something to do. Was having a dream about electrical switches. How in the world do you dream about a switch.

Morning all, 18 and feeling a bit better our today, sun is up slept late but woke up many times during the night.

Today BIL and wife over for crabcakes, I remember when a kid our neighbor would bring over buckets of blue claws and we would steam them for dinner. Now they cost money so we don't have them often. I think it was $17 a pound!

Uneventful yesterday, bulgoggi came out good with some steamed bok choy and country style kimchi and some jasmine rice. I think I make it better than local restaurants since I let the meat caramelize on the griddle. Would rather make it on the grill, but at 14 degrees out, that would have been painful and slow.

I use thin gloves inside and leather gloves outside. I don't feel pain much, so I usually find my gloves stained after a good workout with tools. Crushed finger healing a bit and not bleeding as of yesterday, so restart garage work tomorrow, and start outside work which is running weeks late.
Cut down the ornamental grass, finish wrapping crape myrtles etc.

Think it's soon time to hire electrician to pull a 240 line to garage for a real heater. I don't do wire runs anymore, just replacements etc. have too much else to do and don't need to spend a lot of time looking up town/state electric codes. This town can get pretty crazy with any kind of work.

Drew - I heard fruit cake can be used just like bondo  Friend bought a car once and when he took apart the rear quarter panel, he found out they used packs of cream cheese as filler..

Rip - glad the wife is home and recuperating. I bet she is very happy to be out of the hospital.

BEF - Electric switches leads to electric sheep ??

Be well and stay warm.

19F and cloudy @ 11:00, heading up to a high of around 21F.

Had a quite enjoyable Christmas yesterday at the relatives. Good food, good company, and lots of laughs.

Woman is still in the sack.

She made a pot of coffee after we got home last night to go with the pumpkin pie so She was up pretty late.

Did not get around to feeding the birds yesterday or putting anything out for the deer.

Given our big warm up here, I suspect I'll venture out back and fill up the deer feeder later today.

Other than that probably back to the salt mines downstairs.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas.

Good Morning!!!! 41F @ 8:00AM. Morning fog, then cloudy this afternoon. High 57F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.
There's a fog advisory in effect until 11 this morning, then a high wind advisory starting at 10 tonight. Rain showers are supposed to kick in by 7 PM. Something for everyone.

I'm not a fan of those robots, either, Chris.

Glad to read folks are on the mend and the winter weather is improving.

Yesterday's turkey still had ice inside after being parked in the refrigerator for almost three days, so it took a little longer than expected to cook. Still came out with a golden brown skin and moist and tender, though. I didn't feel comfortable leaving the burn pile unattended, so I enjoyed a pair of drumsticks beside it for my Christmas dinner. The rest went back into the 'fridge. I'll carve and package it today, and move the bags into the freezer for quick meals into the New Year.

Still making steady progress on the brush pile, and pulled out several larger trees yesterday. One was too large to grab in one piece, and the little Makita chainsaw made quick work cutting it in two. Hard to tell what will come out of the pile next, as the bulldozer driver piled everything from twigs to trunks and dirt on top of everything, and it all has to come out piece by piece. That means lots of dirt in the burn pile, too, so I've been raking the ashes and spreading them each morning to get back to level ground before piling more on.

Spoke with my oldest/longest known friend yesterday evening, going back to grade school. He's just getting back on his feet after a hip replacement, but otherwise doing well. Said he'll get the other one done in the New Year. Not something I'd be looking forward to, but he's in enough pain now he wants the relief.

More cutting and burning today, and loading a bit more wood into the pickup. Headed to a cabin in the mountains for New Year's eve, and probably won't go through all the wood I'm bringing, but my friends will like taking whatever's left over home with them.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

26°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 34° today. We got about 1/4" of snow early this morning, just enough to re-dust everything.
We'll be hitting 60° here by Thursday, one week after the big plunge below zero.

Merry Christmas / Hanukah / Ramadan / Bodhi Day / Kwanzaa / or whatever you celebrate this time of year, to everyone. If you celebrate nothing, hope you're having a great time as well.

Oldest stepson couldn't get back from Texas, as he has to work. His girlfriend did come back, though, and stopped by with her mother and sister for awhile on Saturday. Wife thought that was the sweetest thing. They visited for quite awhile before heading off to visit with her grandmother.

Youngest stepson and his girlfriend came over yesterday morning for The Wife's big breakfast, opened presents, then off to their next destination. I think that's maybe the one thing I don't miss about youth; having to go to everyone's home on both sides and eat half-a-dozen meals every holiday.

Happy (belated) Birthdays to those who celebrated over the weekend.

Saw that TBN rolled past the six million posts milestone yesterday. Wow. My guess as to when it would happen just missed by 72 minutes.

Good Morning, all.

If I recall, the Major was started with a shotgun shell.

Correction, it was the Field Marshall.
I knows there was some sort of pyrotechnics involved 😁

rs, if you have some fluid film, spray/wipe it on the door rubbers. They wont freeze up again.

Thanks.

I do have some FF, will give that a try.

If the doors were froze up do to freezing rain the only advice I can give you is to get a remote starter for the car.

Yes - it was due to freezing rain I believe.

For some reason, this particular vehicle seems prone to have doors (and trunk) freeze up.

Probably just need to give the rubber seals a good cleaning and then treat them.

Hope the ham and sweet potato was delicious ... ;)

Good morning to all! Low of 21°, going up to 48°, no wind, no precipitation.

Had a great day and dinner with the son and GSs. They were very surprised and excited with the couple of presents that Santa left for them. Dinner was spectacular! I picked up a 'gourmet' ham at Costco last week... it was by far the best ham that we have had! Then my favorite food, pierogies, were fantastic. The carrots and sweet potatoes were good too...

Went to bed around 22:30. At 22:45, the power went off, flickered back on, then off. I couldn't get to sleep because of the battery backup beeping....(I will read up on how to shut that off today). At 00:50, power came on then right back off. The pellet stove was scheduled to turn on at 01:00.... it started to, then the battery backup started a continuous beep, beep, beep, beep....

So got out of bed and turned the stove off. Apparently, the UPS doesn't have enough 'oomph' ti get it fired up. Power came back on just after 02:10. Unfortunately, I was too lazy / tired to get back out of bed to turn the stove back on. It dropped to 57° in the house this morning. Turned on the heatpumps and the stove ---- toasty warm now.

Needless to say, I'm dragging this morning..... a nap will be in order later.

I, too, no longer have that 'tough skin' on my hands. Just playing with Max causes multiple bruises.

Everyone have a great start to the 'normal' week!

What pierogi do you make? We do potato&cheddar (“Canadian-Style”) pierogi and sauteed sauer kraut pierogi.

67°F and no rain.

Christmas gathering was a huge success, way, way too much good food. A bit of perspective. Many many posts here on GM about precious family times, the kids coming home, visiting at their place etc. For those of us choosing to live out here in the middle of the Pacific, those tend not to be the common choices, though we tend to treasure those times just as you do. What we have found over the years is we have a rather diverse, ever changing group of transplants which becomes our ohana (family). We tend to celebrate together, be there for one another, even share those family visits at times, we tend to know not only each others kids, grandkids, even siblings and a few parents and if on island become part of the group. Yesterday no exception, just a close gathering of 20+ folks.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

David, do you have an update on your neighbors Kubota that would not start?
Sounds like a nice gathering. Sort of like expats

Ron, birds can be funny about sharing. Every morning there is a collection of doves, finches, Brazilians, mynas, cardinals. Every morning we (mostly Sophie) thrown a cup of mixed birdseed out past the door. The doves and mynas tend to be flocks of varying size. The doves often act like bullys. The Brazilians, finches, and cardinals tend to be pairs, sometimes single and usually bring their fledglings and we get to watch them grow. That same area is where we feed the dogs breakfast and the doves ans mynas will scatter when them he can only gowe place out their bowls but return as soon as we are back inside. On nice sunny mornings, Simba, the cat will lounge against the garage door, tail flopping back and forth watching the feather activity about 10 feet or less to his front. We do chastise him he can only go after the doves. Big trouble if he goes after the little ones. Should also mention Sophie has names for the finches, Brazilians, and cardinals and talks to them.
