74 going to 84. Sprinkles.

LS, real nice job on that shelf. Hope the knee is better.

Don, looks like nasty work to clean that fountain, but you're gonna get it looking good, and it's a beauty.

Sodamo, we still have some This End Up furniture...pretty tough stuff.

Quiet day. Did some paperwork and took Della for a hike. She almost caught a big toad...hardest she's ever pulled on the leash. Much of our hike time is leash/heel training...she needs a lot.

Good Morning,
Vt, 61 to start going to 77. Mostly cloudy now with sun coming in later today along with a big drop in humidity!
Yes, I’m not a fan of humidity!

Our friends are expected to be here late morning, they are coming up from Tanglewood In Massachusetts where they attended a concert.

I usually brush hog each side of the DW with the tractor and the lawn needs to be cut since it’s at least a week and a half since I cut it last ! Everything is very green here so I’m guessing we have been getting a good amount of rain since we left !

Ron, beautiful field flowers, Kathleen gets upset when I mow anything like that ! 😉

David, good story and nice job on the head board for the bed from left over parts ! Not sure of plans today, I’m sure it will come together after a cup of coffee! 😉

Hope all have a good day ! 🙏

Good Morning
72° and overcast we are supposed to see breaks of sun on the way to 82°, with little chance of rain.

The roofers postponed yesterday due to rain, they are coming this morning.

Yesterday I got some PEX work done in the boiler room, almost finished, but I ran out of fittings. I did get the plumbing and bathroom fan vents through the roof in preparation of the roofers arrival.
Electrical inspector showed up and blessed the work.

My friend showed up and we puttered around here for a while, the we went out to lunch and to go back to his childhood home. He grew up in the same cooperative community as my wife

We reached out to the present owners of the house that his parents built, and they were very receptive to a visit. I spent a lot of time there during my formative years as well. It was a nice visit, they were gracious hosts.

We had dinner with my DIL and grandson as son was out of town, grandson warmed up immediately to my friend Paul, maybe it was the name, maybe it’s because he had heard the he was a “special friend” that taught his dad how to ride a 4 wheeler on two wheels, or perhaps he is just a good judge of character.

Today I’ll get the roofers started, probably get some fittings and finish the PEX and see what “uncle
Paul” wants to do today.

took Della for a hike. She almost caught a big toad...hardest she's ever pulled on the leash.
Puppies can generate a lot of excitement. Good and bad.

6pm last night, right before a Zoom call with breeder, wife took Rigby out back, came back and said: "Rigby ate something. I don't know what it was but there are some maggots crawling around where he ate." Oh great.

I looked at the area, saw a small "stain" on the stones about the size of a mouse, saw a few maggots, and immediately worried he had eaten a poisoned mouse. Zoom call started and we asked what to do? Breeder said give him a tablespoon of Hydrogen Peroxide to make him throw up and go to vet emergency immediately. We gave him that, loaded him in truck, and off we went.

He did throw up on the blanket of his crate. I pulled over, wadded up the messy blanket, and threw it in the back of the truck.

At the vet, we opened up the crate blanket and ... there it was-- a whole undigested mouse in the middle of .... everything else. Vet said: "great news" and take him home and watch him overnight.

I let him out at 4am this morning and all is well. Just another day in the life of new puppy owners I guess! Later this morning I am pulling out all the bait stations. We have a problem with voles but I need to find another way-- can't do this again.

Everyone have a great day!!

btw GREAT pix BEF!! Nice colors ...

Good morning, the low is 56 and going to a high of 73°F. Wind NW 8 mph. 40% chance if showers.

Grass way too wet to mow, so that is on the back burner until maybe tomorrow.

Funny story; the first tom cat we had was actually Juniors' that I named "Tom". He was all tom. He had a pair of 'nads on him that were huge. He had the nasty habit of slamming his butt on the ground whenever he sat down. I think he was about 3 months old when he slammed his butt on the table in Juniors' room and I swear he crossed his eyes.
From that day onwards right up to his death 23 years later whenever he sat down he would lower his butt quickly until he got it to about 2" off the table and then lower it slowly to a seated position. That is even after we got him castrated at 6 months. He was named Tom Kat.
The second tom we got was called Tom Too Kat and this third one is Tom Tree Kat. "Tree" is the way someone from Newfoundland says three.

I am going to do anything about a charging system for the trike until after I get it assembled...That wont be for about two weeks. It needs to be delivered first. But at the least I have a way to charge the battery while I am riding and also when I get home and it wont cost me any more kilowatt hours on my electricity bill.

Another conserve energy day.

Have a safe day all

Good morning! Low of 55°, heading to 86°. We did get a t-storm about 22:00 last night. Only 0.08" in the gauge. A 30% chance for a t-storm today.

Plow, glad Rigby is back to normal. They can get in trouble fast! We turned our back on Max when he was about 14 weeks old for 5 minutes.... that quick he ate a 6" hole in a shag carpet! Not a shred to be found on the floor, so it was all IN Max! A quick trip to the vet and a giant "rug ball" later.......

Wng, sounds like Della is starting to really enjoy her hikes! Leash training is tough with all the great distractions!

Drew, have a relaxing trip! Hope the rain holds off for you.

LFN, funny story. The entertainment our fuzzy friends provide for us is incredible!

Paul, hope the roof install goes well!

Buppies, have a safe 'work trip'. Hope it goes faster than expected.

Today's agenda includes finishing up the last 2 zones of irrigation, then prepare the truck for this weekend's trip up to Colorado. Need to clean the interior of the truck for sure, might do an oil change if it's close enough, but I think it's not.
Yesterday, I thought about doing something today.... darn if I can remember what it was...

Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning!!!! 76F @ 6:30AM. Sunny. High around 105F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

my method of coffee making would make the pros blanche.
half asleep, pouring coffee right out of bag, no measure, that looks high enough
on the paper filter...
...
any recommendations on ground decaf?
Just yesterday a fellow named Alton Brown, a pretty famous chef, posted a series of Reels on Facebook about his coffee making routine. He precisely controls every parameter to the nth degree, and makes one cup at a time using a cone filter over a cup he pre-warms. The same guy published a series of cookbooks called "Good Eats", and I think there was a TV series by that name, too. He also did a TV series called "Feasting on Asphalt" where he rode his BMW motorcycle coast-to-coast, stopping at restaurants along the way to meet the chefs and explore local cuisine. Back to the coffee, if you can find Peet's brand decaf, their Columbian Roast was all I drank back when I was drinking coffee. I don't see it in their list of decaf coffees anymore, but my buddy likes their Major Dickenson's Blend.

Glad Rigby's OK, PH. Smart vet.

Never got to messing with the generator yesterday, as it was already well past 90F by the time I finished breakfast. Instead I spent the day on the internet and telephone gathering homeowner's insurance quotes for the new home. Talked to about two dozen agents, all but three or four declining to offer coverage. Most no longer wrote policies in California, several objected to the wind damage claim I filed on the old house in December of '22, one claimed the new house was in a wildfire zone, and one said there was insufficient water pressure in the fire hydrant across the street. I was excited about a quote from Zurich America Insurance that came in at about a third of what Farmers wants for the coming year, until I read the BBB complaints and Yelp! reviews. Almost all of them were about the very poor claims service, many having to resort to legal means to settle. Surprisingly, Amica offered coverage at about the same price I'm paying now with Farmers, so that's my best bet so far. I had them for a while on the old house, but they raised the rates about 20% each year, so I moved on. And those were in the days before insurance companies bailed on California. Gonna be another hot one, so maybe I'll get lucky and find something even better. Any of you have a recommendation?

At about three o'clock yesterday afternoon reports started coming in about a wildfire in Bidwell Park on the north side of Chico, CA. The Park Fire spread rapidly to the north, closing the airport and causing evacuations for more than twenty miles into the hills. The last reported size is over 45,000 acres with only 3% containment. After sunset, I could see the orange glow on the underside of the fire cloud from my front porch, maybe twenty miles away. As if that weren't enough for one day, at about 7 PM another fire started along the road I take to Chico, growing to 40 acres before they got it contained.

Starting today off on the right foot:

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!
