any recommendations on ground decaf?
Just yesterday a fellow named Alton Brown, a pretty famous chef, posted a series of Reels on Facebook about his coffee making routine. He precisely controls every parameter to the nth degree, and makes one cup at a time using a cone filter over a cup he pre-warms. The same guy published a series of cookbooks called "Good Eats", and I think there was a TV series by that name, too. He also did a TV series called "Feasting on Asphalt" where he rode his BMW motorcycle coast-to-coast, stopping at restaurants along the way to meet the chefs and explore local cuisine. Back to the coffee, if you can find Peet's brand decaf, their Columbian Roast was all I drank back when I was drinking coffee. I don't see it in
their list of decaf coffees anymore, but my buddy likes their Major Dickenson's Blend.
Glad Rigby's OK, PH. Smart vet.
Never got to messing with the generator yesterday, as it was already well past 90F by the time I finished breakfast. Instead I spent the day on the internet and telephone gathering homeowner's insurance quotes for the new home. Talked to about two dozen agents, all but three or four declining to offer coverage. Most no longer wrote policies in California, several objected to the wind damage claim I filed on the old house in December of '22, one claimed the new house was in a wildfire zone, and one said there was insufficient water pressure in the fire hydrant across the street. I was excited about a quote from Zurich America Insurance that came in at about a third of what Farmers wants for the coming year, until I read the BBB complaints and Yelp! reviews. Almost all of them were about the very poor claims service, many having to resort to legal means to settle. Surprisingly, Amica offered coverage at about the same price I'm paying now with Farmers, so that's my best bet so far. I had them for a while on the old house, but they raised the rates about 20% each year, so I moved on. And those were in the days before insurance companies bailed on California. Gonna be another hot one, so maybe I'll get lucky and find something even better. Any of you have a recommendation?
At about three o'clock yesterday afternoon reports started coming in about a wildfire in Bidwell Park on the north side of Chico, CA. The
Park Fire spread rapidly to the north, closing the airport and causing evacuations for more than twenty miles into the hills. The last reported size is over 45,000 acres with only 3% containment. After sunset, I could see the orange glow on the underside of the fire cloud from my front porch, maybe twenty miles away. As if that weren't enough for one day, at about 7 PM another fire started along the road I take to Chico, growing to 40 acres before they got it contained.
Starting today off on the right foot:
Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!
