Scotty, there is power to the property immediately behind us. Initial investigation determined getting it down here to be expensive. 2 or 3 poles, permission from property owner, then the possibility the property below would expect same, making for an unsightly run of poles and lines thru our view. At the time, a quick estimate and expected electric bill would likely be in excess of $200/month. Like you, so many fees tacked onto already outrageous rate. Opted for the off grid and glad we did. We tend to average 30-40 kwh/day, more if running the hottub.

Coffee done brewing. 46° with partly cloudy skies. Heading to 50° with Rain, Snow and Wind. 72° with sun and clouds made a perfect day for last day of Winter. Decided to work on repairing bird feeder post that Deer have been working at bending over so they can get at food in feeder. Raised pole and feeder up over a foot. By the time I finished I had enough. Did not get to garden pond cleanup. Todays weather may stop me from getting it done today. Maybe a conserve energy day.
Where is the suet cake?

good morning all
cloudy today and rain, the nice warm sunny weather is over though still 65 today.
got a lot done yesterday and feel good about it.
today I still have to do more wash, and then later today head over to Princeton to have
dinner with my sister. I'm her first invite to dinner, happy to be her guinea pig, she's a fine cook.

Mostly, very cool about the little girl hug. Puts a smile on your face for a long time.

Cut a load of firewood yesterday. Had to make a new path through the woods into an area where there are several trees to cut. In my younger days I would have rolled each round down or hand carried them down to the path, but decided to clear a little brush and squeeze the tractor through the trees, that way only carry them a short distance.

While about to stop the tractor, I found the Bat Cave.

I saw a bat fly up from the ground as I approached a tree. Got down from the tractor and went around the other side and saw this.

if you have an EV and want to go in snow up North,
Car and Driver just did a long term winter review of the Kia Ioniq 5 EV and what caught
my eye was the reference to snow tires:
my memory isn't so hot with age but I think one of you have these tires on your car
though this is a new special EV version with what looks like a more closed pattern, less open areas I guess for efficiency.

But let's start our 10,000-mile update on a positive note. Before the snow began to fall in earnest, we equipped our Ioniq 5 with a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 EV studless winter tires, measuring the same 235/55R-19 at all four corners as the normal all-season footwear. In what is likely the highest praise for a set of snowshoes, our numerous logbook entries barely mention the Nokians. The ride proved just as comfortable as before, and the rubber provided immense amounts of grip when snow did start to fall. Despite some deep treads and sipes aplenty, we didn't run into any issues with annoying tramlining on grooved road surfaces. We've always been a fan of the ol' Hakkas, and it's good to know that the EV-specific variants are just as capable.

pretty sure a Bridgestone Blizzak or Michelin Ice would be almost as good but there seems to be an almost cult
following for these tires. I'd like to send Bill a set of four. Need to keep him out of the ditch...

have always been fascinated by tires. currently the hot ticket is a chevron shaped tread that meets in the middle of the tire.
Michelin has the top rated tire now with an exaggerated version of that tread pattern. Looks like it should be noisy as can be but
apparently not. And grips like mad. Tires are getting better, particularly in bad weather.

Nokians were oem tires on my Ram diesel dually, never heard of them but they turned out to
drive really well. Finnish company with a factory in Tennessee.

54 this morning very windy last night like howling in fact, restock at Walmart 25 mph went to bed at midnight after putting groceries up. Really missing Holly but glad I got to visit with her yesterday. We have a special bond. Mostly neat getting hug from little girl.
This is cool door bell rang last night had fallen asleep deputy sheriff checking on me people really do care you all included. I wish I could sleep

Good morning! 39˚F heading to 70˚ N wind Sunny skies. Red flag alert is down with decreased winds and 50% humidity.

I was surprised when the painting crew finished yesterday about 4:30. The dry wind made spraying difficult but reduced drying time between coats. The high was 77˚ also helped. House looks good.

Pool pump part will be in Friday, If it still does not work right I will have completed all the requirements for a new pump under warranty.

Pool bots were working hard yesterday and required emptying every few hours. No luck on finding someone to install a pool cover, but still have a few more companies to call.

The deer found the newly planted Costco roses and they appear shorter, but still alive. The deer haven't found the hibiscus in the pots by the pool, yet.

We need rain desperately the .0x" rains don't last long.

45 outside this AM, heading to 70. Unfortunate rain is expected later this afternoon.

More cutting, splitting, moving and stacking yesterday. Only about 1/2 cord done. Am slowing down from the day before. First time I have cut up an Elm. Wet and stringy. Messy splits. I came across a bone dry piece and man that was a nice smooth split. I see a huge difference between dry wood and fresh wood for sure. Actually can see out the front door now and am slowly working towards the big one.

Need to run out today for domestic errands and call the plumber for a pipe relocation in the Milk House. Finally got the hot water heater cabinet made which hides the hot water heater. Reclaimed barn wood was used, again.

It’s Michigan weather. If you do not like it. Wait a minute. It will change. Forecast shows a drop in temperatures into low 30’s midday. Then back up to 50° later.

Well deserved good news, Buppies. Hope it keeps on coming.

With the help of my contractor neighbor, we got the firetruck started yesterday. Ran power to the new fuel pump, and had to break through a big rust flake that had blocked the drain hole in the fuel tank. Then neighbor soldered a stand off tube into the barbed elbow that threads into the drain hole to hopefully prevent another blockage. Next step is to see if I can get some water going through the hose.

Also need to get a burn pile going today. Last calm day for a while, with more rain coming tomorrow.

Good morning TBN!!
55 now and supposed to get to mid 60s. Wind picking up this afternoon with a low chance of spotty showers.
More work on plan of attack for the bridge. Got it all worked out I think.
Today is going to be a mostly recharge and then start full blown over the weekend. Got a little help coming so hopefully will get most out of the way by Mon. Should be able to move to Phase II next week.
Got some walking and dog time in and a new day awaits.

38° and drizzle now, highs low/mid 50’s, mostly cloudy today winds SE 5-10 mph. Supposed to see rain late tonight into tomorrow morning. As much as I’d like the mud to dry up we need rain, there’s already been local brush fires popping up.

Not sure about today, may be a good day for a ride and some lunch.
