Good morning!!!!

Good Morning,
Ct, 38 to start going to 49. Foggy and damp this morning, with chance for a shower at some point

Opted for the off grid and glad we did. We tend to average 30-40 kwh/day, more if running the hottub.
David, thanks for the explanation on poles coming through neighbors property. On our Vermont property we have one pole coming in from the street, I’m guessing about 400 ft and then the power goes underground from there to the front of the house. If you remember, going back about 1 1/2 years ago I took the power out because I snagged the conduit coming down the pole 🤣 I’m more cautious now 😉. Anyway I can see how nice it would be not to have that electric bill arrive every Month.

Yesterday would have been a beautiful day to go over to Long Island on the ferry across the sound, today not so much. But I’m sure we will have a great time anyway. Looks like we will be taking the 5 pm ferry.

Thomas, hope you enjoyed that smooth cigar during the good weather.

Happy, looking forward to your progress on your project. We will need some pictures 😃

Don, we have the Loop Lick cover on our in ground pool. It’s 30 years old or maybe 31 and still keeping the leaves and other debris out. It is showing its age but to replace it I’m looking at $5000, ouch. Will try and get a few more years out of it.

Hope all have a great day 🙏

Good Morning Again,
David, almost forgot, the original owner that built our cabin mentioned how expensive it was just to put that one pole onto the property. So I understand how yours could be very high. 😉

I was quoted 5k a pole to bury.

You can price it out yourselves, LOL, I am 1800 feet from the street.

:)

Drew, I don't need ditches to get stuck. Just my driveway/turn around area up by the house. I've ordered 4 Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 snows for next winter.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...lar=SXT&cameFrom=WinterSection#RatingsReviews
They are $315.oo each mounted, balanced and stored for next winter. Including tax. They are made in Quebec.
Back in the late '70s, I swore by Firestone bias ply directional snow tires. They were 6 ply load range C and took all the abuse I could throw at them. Ran them year round. I ran them on an open diff Chev pickup.

Bill, I was trying to give you more credit, make this more interesting...
like the ground just swallowed me up like a giant snow monster

Those Blizzaks will be wonderful and keep you safer.

grey, misty and not very inviting outside.
will do wash instead

good morning, 48 going to 66 nice morning rain to start late afternoon

Set up an appointment for a hand specialist to check out the injured finger

Glad to hear you are doing better Bubbies

Always used Michelin tires with good results. Had one set with 100K on them

I've been a firm believer in the Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded snows for several years, the LT series on my pickup and the SUV 8,9 and 10 series on my wifes vehicle. New ones this past start of winter for her new sedan and the old ones on my pickup. Switched to these about 10 years ago when Cooper went to crap with their studded snows, used their Winter masters for many years. As far as I have seen the Nokians are hands down the best gripping snows I've ever ran. Expensive but on a steep driveway that can be icey they work.

Morning all, 43 going to 65 and rain.
Did get out and split some wood after doing more paperwork and more calls.
Seem to have our list of to dos ready. Waiting for death certificate to start next round.
Will call Dads GF in a few days to checkin and make sure she is ok.

Scotty - log is ash, I don't bother with poplar it's too soft. I have a lot of ash. I do have one smaller cherry to mill. Maybe later in the summer.

Will be about $260/tire for the jeep, will go on next week during inspection.

Be well,
First flowers of spring

Another load of wood about to move out. Also put up a pile for my neighbor.

Clouds had some drama last night, still not as good as this all looked, but phone camera and some adjusting got the gist of it.

Found a loop-loc in NY but no dealerships in Texas.

55 outside so when wash done headed out to plant
got radish and lettuce plants in, plus about twelve linear feet each
of romaine lettuce seeds and a radish easter egg variety
then planted bush beans in multiple locations, tricolor variety

motivated by rain coming later, always nice to have some natural rain on plants instead of
my acidic well water.

nose pad fell off one side of glasses, will need to stop at glasses place on way to sister's later.
until then, time to conserve some energy.

Lou’s driveway is the ultimate test for good traction devices, I know that for fact 😉

Don, yes Loop-Loc is based on Long Island I believe. But as Mike mentioned, there must be others closer to your local. I could not buy direct from Like Loop-Loc, they only sell to the pool installers. So you might have better luck if you knew what company installed your pool and contact them.

66°F and .54 inches rain

Happy Solstice

Yesterday stayed wet enough to be an energy conservation day. Hoping for better luck this morning.

Friends having a Solstice gathering this afternoon. A different mix of people than we usually see. A challenge for the hosts as Marks hearing has deteriorated quite badly of late, very difficult for his wife as he tends to avoid people.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

when you can't hear well, you can feel pretty self conscious always saying what?
I have a good friend that socializes less due to substantially reduced hearing.
and I for one can't take places with loud music anymore.

interesting to read that every Tesla Cybertruck is now being recalled due to:
Defective adhesive that holds the trim panel onto the cant rails
(the structural pieces that span the window pillars on either side
of the roof) that is “susceptible to environmental embrittlement”.
In plainer English, if the glue goes bad, trim piece can delaminate and fly off the truck.

if you get behind one on the interstate, maybe don't follow too close.

one of many reasons cybertrucks cost 45 percent more to insure on average.
folks do really stupid things with them for youtube moments too.
don't they know the insurance companies know how to google youtube?...
and everyone should read the policy language regarding prohibition of any organized
speed event.

fond memories of driving my 64 356 Porsche in a couple of gymkana events in 1973, going around cones in a big parking lot,
as a rookie insurance underwriter and then finding out I was uninsured while competing.
I wonder how the collector car insurance handles that, can you take your car to the drag strip?

At the time it was pretty much a wash, poles vs off grid except the residuals. Off grid was not, suspect still not cheap, but very happy with our choice. Most of the highs and lows of this adventure are documented here on TBN. Both Tech and prices have come a long way in last 20 years. I’d like to think my inverter upgrade of last month is my last major upgrade, but mentally I still look and wonder “what if” 😁

Had a new neighbor arrive from Maryland maybe 10/12 years ago, insistent she was going to get power run down the road to her place. Never happened and they pretty much trashed their solar system. Moved back to Maryland after about 5 years.

Many years ago I took the Port Jeff ferry numerous times.

Drew, I read a very interesting article not long ago linking hearing loss and dementia. Really made sense. My friend Mark has been getting progressively worse since knowing him and he has avoided crowds for years. Today will be interesting. He is my friend that has every nut and bolt sorted and organized in his barn. He and wife cruised the seas more than 10 years before settling here in Hawaii. Just sold their boat a few years ago in Australia Some great stories.

installing the new surge protector on my new washing machine, decided to plug the watts meter in.
hmmm
constant parasitic drain of .03 amps
3.6 watts?
I wonder what circuit it is keeping warm
might just unplug it though 3 watts is like a small night light.
but it isn't glowing in the dark...

had to look that up...less than a penny a day
gonna have to cut back a bit ;)

Well we are on a new ferry but it’s so foggy we can’t see much of anything. Our luck I guess 😉

I will add pictures later , no signal out in the middle of the sound !
