67°F and .04 inches rain.

Nothing that great yesterday as it started out wet. Did get the storage carrier for Sophie’s EGO assembled and started on rehabbing the old wheeled sprayer. Goal is to have the sprayer mounted on the EGO mower. Just might give up football and try to get that done.

A nice visit in afternoon from Michigan friends.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day

Good afternoon, I am a little late today. Low 41 going to 46°F. Wind WSW 11 mph. A mix of sun and cloud.

Went to bed last night at 11, got up at 3, stayed up till 7 then went back to bed and got up again at 10. Forgot all about posting in the morning.

I've got 7 clocks in the cave, three are right twice a day, my alarm clock, wrist watch and the clocks on both my phone and the PC.

I was going to send the Chelsea Ships Bell clock down to Boston to get repaired, but with the current situation I think it will be staying right here at home.

I am conserving energy in preparation for the North Bay trip tomorrow.
After the trip I will fish out the block heater cord that is hiding under the hood of the Dodge and set up the remote control for that.
That will be the very end of my winter prep.

Have a safe day all

Do you have an idea of how thick the water bearing sandstone is at your location?

Somewhat.

Neighbor's recently drilled well hit a mix of sandstone and shale @ 60' all the way down to the bottom of the well @ 160'.

The texture was described as "hard" (bedrock) on the drilling report.

The strata in the wells drilled on the adjacent road coming to our home are either shale or sandstone ... or a mix of both like above.

Earliest wells on that road were drilled in the early 1950's.

Total depth of wells ranges from 50' to 160', with static water levels supposedly ranging from 12' to 85'.

I say "supposedly" because sometimes the entries in the ODNR database are incorrect. One of neighbor's well was listed as having a static water level of 175' ... an impossibility since the well is only 54' deep, total depth.

Pull up the actual drilling report on that one and the static water level is listed as 17' ...

Interestingly that 160' well above was drilled in 1956 ... clay, sand and gravel to 20', then shale 20' to 40', then sandstone (with streaks of shale) 40' to 120', then shale from 120' to 160'. One hour test was run @ 10 gpm with no draw down, static water level @ 20'.

That property is due west of us (800' ?), but slightly north (probably less than 50' to 75')

I'm just asking because my back of the envelope for a 5" well is that it would add less than a gallon of storage volume for every three feet deeper it gets drilled.

A 5" bore (diameter) will hold slightly over a gallon per foot. 1.02 gallons to be exact.

So it would have to quite a bit deeper to add much in the way of storage capacity.

(But deeper might certainly bump up the flow)

Yes ... particularly if it hits additional fractures in the rock.

My mental map for your area is lots of rainfall, and surface water, but I guess that doesn't say much about the aquifer, which just goes to show how bad my mental maps can be.

Yeah ... we typically have pretty significant rainfall ... at least when we are not suffering under drought conditions.

ODNR has a snot load of info on Ohio's strata, hydrology and groundwater on their website. One example:

Groundwater Vulnerability Map of Ohio

Another (huge pdf):

Hydrogeologic Settings of Ohio

Are you and your neighbors all on sewer, or is it septic and the water is returned to the soil (and perhaps the aquifer)?

Pretty much all on septic, city/county has started to put in sewer and connect it to an adjacent city's wastewater treatment plant via a trunk line ... but that's mainly along a main road corridor for commercial development.

No plans for widespread residential sewer at this point, other than maybe those along the above route.

Similar thing with city water. They have entered into an agreement with a company to provide "city water" along that commercial corridor.

Cost is fairly significant but probably slightly cheaper than having a new well drilled:

Screen Shot 2025-11-02 at 12.48.20.png

Tie in is voluntary.

Not really an option for us as we are well off the route.

51F and cloudy @ 13:30, calling for a high of around 53F with light and variable winds.

Got up to the shop yesterday and fired up the double barrel stove.

Collected up most of the steel for friend's project and started cutting those to length.

Still short some angle ... but there might be a piece sitting outside that can be used, will have to look.

Then started tacking up pieces:

IMG_3901 copy.jpg

Gave up and called it quits when I tacked a couple of pieces of 1" square tube in the wrong orientation ... 🤬

Sometimes ya just got to walk away for a bit ...

Did get the shop warmed up to around 77F ... will be interesting to see how much it cooled off overnight.

Came back down to the house and ate and then got a little more work done on plumbing and insulating in the basement.

Knocked off around 23:30 and came up and caught the tail end of Game 7.

Slept for close to 12 hours.

Going to grab a shower and then head back up to the shop and see if I can't get this little project finished up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)

Got about an hour sleep, didn't make it to morning service. But was on the phone with my son in TN taking care of stuff. So far "Visible by verizon" has sucked at the house, either 1 bar or sos mode.

wife complaining about lady bugs trying to get in now..

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 14C and it's presently 20.4C, mostly cloudy & calm. Rain is predicted later on.

The 'Mad Agisting Horse Woman' + Daughter's horses returned yesterday arvo. Plus, the last ton of firewood was delivered... so, I've got to 'gird my loins' and start stacking.

Except I've got an 'in house' visit by a pharmacist to revue all of my medication. That's scheduled for 1115.

That's about it, take care all.

you have 35 degree cold soak on that steel, have fun.
Just needed to get it dry enough to lightly sand for final coat! :D

many a squiggly paint job for me when I painted on surfaces too cold.
Then I got an IR temp gun and stop doing that.
I brushed the primer and first coats, because I was working piecemeal as I was welding mod's and working rusty areas with the needle scaler or wire brush, but decided to spray the last coat.

I'm figuring around 2pm today in full sun will be perfect for you.
I was targeting noon, since it was supposed to be nearing 60F by then, but ended up shooting from about 1:15 - 2:30 pm. So, pretty close to your figuring!

somewhat perplexing that my prior post was held for moderator approval.
does squiggly mean something bad??
You kiss your mother with that mouth?!? 😲

@daugen I've seen some higher performance electric boats coming in from overseas, but personally, I have some concerns about the battery quality, and I'm pretty sure that I don't want to be too far from shore if a lithium battery short circuits.
I can't imagine they're going to be less reliable than some of the older single-engine boats I grew up on. It's not like gasoline marine engines are all that reliable, in that harsh environment.

Good Tractor Morning,

I used to use Lisinopril, had to stop, dry cough was very annoying 😉
I switched to Losartin Potassium, no cough and much better. That’s the only prescription that I take. I do take Glucosamine Chondroitin , no script necessary.

Not too many , but we left the lights on and walked across the street to our neighbors, when we came home both huge bowls that were totally full of candy were empty 😳 Just as well, I don’t need it anyway 😉😃
I take Losartin. I don't have any side effects that I can tell, unless some of my knee's arthritis can be attributed to it??? (just kidding unless there is something there)...
Good Luck. While searching last I visited a couple of sites that offered information on various plans. Everyone of them was missing information. Including US Gov Medicare. Ended up going to each plans site. Some of them did not offer information if my Dr was on the plan. Same with other info needed such as specialist.
Maybe call the Doctor's office staff to see what they recommend based on what the Doc accepts?
What is it?
It is a really large tank plowing a field with a 5 or 6 row plow behind it. Could you not open it?

Rip, prayers for pain relief. Not sure if belly surgery needs rehab like knee replacement or not? You must have a really nice place. Hope they don't charge you too much tax for the game refuge parts.

Buppies, prayers for you and Holly. It has to be tough. I've been around families that have to have deadbolt locks on the doors where the only way out is if you have a key, to keep the person from escaping.

Nice car show!

Great pics, love the fall. Y'all can keep the 4 letter word stuff up there. although my kids would love some down here.

Our church had a fall festival/auction/fund raiser on Saturday. My wifey bought me a few raffle tickets. I won a nice 65qt Yeti Tundra ice chest. woohoo!

Now I can go to bed early and have a bit of daylight when I get to work.

Ron, glad plumbing went good.

Popgadget, beautiful family, and the "old folks home" looks very very nice. I'll bet the warm floor tiles are great in the winter.

No trick or treaters at my house. They all go to the nicest neighborhood in town. It gets packed there. Most of the residents embrace it, some turn off their lights. There are police there for traffic control.

Our peahen is lonely since all the chickens were killed by the possum. If you remember, she is our weathervane, sleeping at the peak of our tractor shed up high. I miss the good parts of chicken ownership, the eggs and the natural bug killers. Don't miss the coop cleaning, having to lock up the pen at night every night, the predation.

Went to church this am. Went to eat afterwards. Had to rest for a couple hours after eating. Took son to practice tennis. I hit a few balls too, but not very mobil anymore with my knees. We set up a ball machine that shoots them out. It was the first time to use this particular one and it has 12 modes, which aren't explained unless you have a manual. No manual. Then I figured out that the tennis portable building's electric service is out, so no re-charging. Need to tell the coach.

Prayers for our team, our nation, and for peace around the world.

Good evening all. 39º for the start, clear sky, light breeze. Light wind, clear sky, and high temp was 68ºF. Made coffee to start day, help set up, attend, help tear down Chapel, breakfast with group, deliver Dash meals, nap, read TBN posts. In order to catch up decided not to comment on all posts, now up to Fricay afternoon.
Buppies prayers sent.
Happy anniversary to Happy and his wife.

good morning all
up early on a cold morning but warming up to 63 today which will be nice
have a few errands to run today but should be a quiet day
I have eight small mums to plant and can't decide where to put them, probably up in front garden that
doesn't get a lot of sun but mums grow there fine.

trying to reduce number of annuals and stick with perennials
but come spring, all those pretty annuals are like getting new paints for a canvas

Coffee is brewing. 41° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 56° with afternoon sunshine. Got all the smoke and Carbon Monoxide sensors tested and battery changed. Then collected all the rest garden ornaments put away in barn. In afternoon neighbor came over and helped change out 16' high yard light. Nice to have the light working again. Driver that I watch won the NASCAR Championship. Today will start getting garden pond wintized.

49 and raining. Should clear up by noon and hit 63.

Got a hike and Della swim yesterday and then cleaned our chimney. Two-part job...disconnect the stovepipe from the woodstove, take it outside and clean it. Then up on the roof to clean the chimney. Both done, but I have a gasket to repair before reassembling.

Found a mud dauber nest in the chimney for the first time, from over the summer. Very unusual and pretty one in the way different color clay was used to patch over the cylinders and make a solid mass.

Kind of hard to do on weekends and at night. I did call my dentist. They only accept one of the many plans from the plan I was looking at. Ended up calling to get the information mid week. Person I talked had to look it up on a a system that was not available to people using their site. My dentist is on the plan.

Good morning, the low is 46 and going up to 48°F. Wind SSW 20 gusting to 34 mph. Showers.

North Bay trip is on for today, only 6 stops that I know of.

Huumfff, typical Toronto team, drop the ball at the last minute. Maple Leafs do that too. What do the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays have in common?? The Blue Jays can't play hockey either.

Time to get breakfast into me.

Have a safe day all
