Well morning (afternoon) all;

Lots of different Mexican styles of for for sure. One of the restaurants up serves JALISCO-STYLE mexican food which is very much different the Tex-Mex. Their food is good but I like Tex-Mex better.

Kind of a nippy day up here started out at 0F this morning and got to a high of 20F at 4:30this afternoon.

We got the Shelter-Logic cover on the shed today even with this cold, it does have a lot of wrinkles to come out when it warms up a bit. Also I have to figure out just what I am going to do/use for a door or an opener.
But the sand bunker is covered and protected from the storm tonight and tomarrow, which is from 1-3 inches with rain mixed in or 4-6 inches and a bit of rain at the end, so we shall see which guesser comes the closer.

I'll sure be glad when I get these danged splints out of my nose and it gets healed up, that cold weather is a pure dee bitc- on a cut up nose.

I dislike Tex-Mex as it's dairy heavy, and I can't have Dairy.

There are a lot of different areas with different foods in Mexico.
Then you get south of Mexico and it changes a lot again.
From Spain Spanish to unique Mole and other local foods created right in Mexico, some pretty ancient recipes back to Maya/Aztec.

Got the Jeep parts and the Power supply, tested the new fan and it certainly is peppier than the one currently in there.
Now just to find a day enough above freezing to work on this, Son will be home in a few days, so might wait for him to help.

Had to rush the dog to the vet, she has an infection, looks like we caught it early.
She is not showing signs yet, so happy we could get her checked and medicated before it got bad.
Unlike my other dogs, she loves the vet.

Lou,

Your sand pile is going to be much happier protect from the rain/snow and by that I mean you will be much happier!

I've seen where people put a PVC pipe through the bottom of the door and wrap a rope around it to roll the door up/down, wonder if that would work for you? I guess there has to be something secure above the door for that rope trick to work.

That is one of the methods that they suggest, I just not that sure or impressed with that concept.
But yes both the sand pile and myself are going to be much happier.

Interested. Cheaper than paper towels. Probably taste better too.
yep. You can make some phenomenally good coffee with a French press, but like learning to use each new coffee machine, it'll take a few tries to dial in on the recipe you like best.

Due to relying on a metal mesh screen to separate the grounds from the water, the French press produces coffee with more sediment or "mouth feel" than paper filters. If you already use a metal screen basket in your regular machine, you're probably already used to this. Either way, it's something a bit different, a fun way to make coffee on the odd weekend day or as an emergency backup when your machine breaks or you run out of paper filters.

Would you have room for the flap/door to be pulled inside?

Yes,but I would have to pull it all the way in, I'll have to check my actual clearance with Branson to see for sure, I don't anticipate the NH going in. And the Kioti will have no problem. Also going to have to start looking for solar powered lights with a battery and a remote panel.

Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of 9C and it's presently 20.5C "clear" yet very hazy due to a local bushfire. A slight breeze at the moment.

Yesterday arvo I did get off my arse... er, I mean "got into the Christmas spirit" and put up the Christmas tree/decorate the house. Penelope the Pussybeast was non-plussed about the whole thing.

Whilst that was going on is when the bushfire started in the Southern area of St Helens around the aerodrome & surrounds. About 7km away from me. It came up quick and there was an evacuation notice that came out, even on my mobile phone. Short story is that there's no homes lost and it's been downgraded to a "Watch & Act" situation. I can still hear a few water-b0mbing helicopters so it's not over yet.

Anyway, it's 'into town' day for groceries. I'll look to mow the 'front paddock/equine exercise area' either this arvo or tomorrow.

That's about it, take care all.

28 deg, got up to 31.
Took a stroll back to the creek, swapped SD card, picked up the cell camera that stopped working again, same( one I brought back from OHio that had issues. Batteries were totally dead in it, and it was put up just a week or so ago with new batteries. SD card had a few pics from 1 day, then nothing. My phone app was getting messages that the SD card was missing, which it wasn't... This is the oldest of the spypoint camera's i have, might try to see if it will take a firmware upgrade.
Snagglepuss took the stroll with me. I have 3 of these circles in the field.
IMG_4568.jpeg

going thru backups, discovered a large directory of old game camera pics missing. I had marked they were removed from the laptop, and I recall marking them on a backup drive that it was the only copy, yet can't find on any of my backup drives... Nothing important on them, just activity that occurred in the back yard at the farm. With all these game cameras, I get thousands of pics of nothing, blurry deer, etc.. I try to mark the good pics, but keep them all in an archive directory.. Might have to build me my own data center to hold them all....

cats chasing each other. Caught pebbles up in the top of the christmas tree again.

I was thinking a pulley system, with the pipe in the bottom (I'd use galvanized conduit instead of the pvc), maybe even use an inexpensive Harbor Freight winch. It would Hinge at the top, obviously, and you could anchor to the top of the hoops. Maybe, sorta kinda

@Wagtail I hope that you and the animals stay safe. Do you have fire screens / shutters on your windows? I saw recently that the Aussie government was recommending 100m clearance around homes. Does that apply to you where you are, or just bush properties?
🤞🙏

@LouNY I've seen it done like the rollup bamboo screens; rope wound around the pipe/conduit, with a pulley on top going to a second dual pulley to bring both lines down again on one side, but I don't know how that ultra duty material is going to put up with being rolled when it is 0F. Does shelter logic have any recommendations? Just pull the bottom end into the shelter at roof level so you can get under it?

All the best,

Peter

I've just got back from town. The 'immediate evacuate' notice has been reduced back to a 'watch & act', so the various fire brigades/assets got onto it quick-smart. There's very little wind so it must've been embers that caused that flare-up.

As I've said, I'm safe. I'm a good 7km away from the area effected plus the wind direction is away from me. I did notice about 12 horses are being billeted at the Equine/Pony Club grounds when I drove home. They're beside the cricket/footy club grounds which is being used as the helicopter 'base'.

The only inconvenience to me is that the deli department at the IGA grocery was closed due to a lack of staff as they must all live out that way.
----------------------------------------------

I don't have fire screens/shutters on my house. Too expensive and the government/insurance don't require you to have them.

 If I were able to clear all of the trees around my house to what 'they' recommend it would be a Canadian Football field long "110 yards" circumference. (My neighbours would probably object, too) It's pretty much city folk 'recommendations'.

I do carry insurance in case of bushfire. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't or let it lapse. I'm constantly seeing news reports of "un-insured, there's a 'Go Fund Me' account if you would like to help."
----------------------------------------------

Right. I'll go and do that mowing.

I put a piece of 1/2" black pipe in my doors the full length of the door and roll it up all the way and tie it up. The tractor shed right now doesn't have one, but the other two shelters do. The smaller shelter over the fuel tank has a piece of 1" doweling and it is rolled all the way up.

As for coffee, now I have one cup a month when I go shopping in North Bay. Back when I was trucking I would do up my coffee in a French press. I always used the extra fine grind. I didn't mind the mud in the bottom of the cup.
