Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 8C and it's presently 20.1C, light clouds with a small breeze. Bushfire warning downgraded to a lower "Watch and Act" with residents allowed to return home. Local traffic only on the only road out to St Helens Point.

Yesterday's 'quick' run into town was straight forward for the scripts at the Chemist... however, it was proven yet again that I should NOT be allowed to enter a/the hardware store unaccompanied! Still, I needed the orbital sander (+ sander disks)((+ stain & varnish for the Church's main doors)), which I can also use for other projects around the property.

I've got a Veteran Christmas luncheon to attend at 1230 today, so that should be it for today.

That's about it, take care all.

rapidly growing number of youtube videos out there showing packages blowing up on porch pirates.
it may make for fun viewing and clicks but it's both dangerous and illegal.
plus setting a boobytrap is definitely a violation of your homeowners liability insurance and they won't defend or pay.
An intentional act of harm is not covered, which is common sense. Umbrella policy won't pay either.
Going to need a lot of youtube clicks to pay for your defense lawyer.

you can't fight a basic misdemeanor theft with a felony injuring...
personally I think a good taser shot for thieves would be good
That is a new way to spell twelve. I think a load of rock salt would be a good deterrent. Have you ever felt the sting of rock salt in the spot where you sit down? I have and it is not fun. I got it from trespassing, not thieving.

   / Good morning!!!! #215,465
I love watching the theft deterrent videos on youtube. The act of theft isn't legal either so that shouldn't stop you from protecting your property.
30 deg out.
Most of my Christmas orders arrived today in one big pile on the porch, no pirates got them...
One already wrapped.

Good morning TBN! Snowed off and on all day here yesterday but amounted to nothing. Above 20 degrees here now which will remain and snow returns on Friday. I got camp stuff prepared yesterday and since our Kodiak atv is now spoken for, I made inquires for its replacement. Hope everyone's health remains good.
Did the Kodiak give you problems or just not enough power?

Good morning! 31˚F heading to the upper 60s with sunny skies and wind shifting South.

Completed long trip to Texas Medical Center in Houston to visit BIL's Family at the hospital. I didn't want to deal with the construction on I10 so I took hwy 90 in. BIL is hanging in there after three surgeries in 3 days. Still two or three more to go. He had a hard time waking from the last surgery and there was a scare that he might have had a stroke. But with more wake up drugs and the encouragement from his stepdaughter he woke up and moved his fingers and toes.

On Sunday he hit the 18wheeler's trailer on the front edge as the truck made an unyielding turn right in front of him no time for him to even apply his brakes. His face took the brunt of the force. The truck driver got a ticket.

Kyle if you could see him you would sell your motorcycle. You can control only your actions not the other drivers. His son is still having a hard time after witnessing the accident. He thought. his Father was dead not moving.
Don, Prayers for as near to full recovery as can be. Is this on your side of the family or your wife's? Prayers for the family.

Maybe 5 years ago, I went past a wreck on HWY 21 in Cooks Point, where an 18 wheeler had turned left in front of a mom and daughter driving the daughter back to school early in the morning (dark). They went under his tanker trailer and were decapitated in their mini van. The top had been peeled off like a tin of sardines. Another bad thing was, I had noticed maybe the same truck with the same company stickers on it (prolly the same truck) driving badly previously multiple times in the area. Driving fast, changing lanes in and out of traffic to try and go 5mph more than the posted speed limit. The company changed their name soon after that, probably to declare bankruptcy and not pay much of nothing.

I usually only ride the back country roads here in our county. average about 35mph. My bike has dual headlights, and I run them on highbeam during the daylight. I see some riders turn off their headlight, mainly because they don't want someone telling them what to do, and this is a sure fire way of getting hurt or killed. I don't care to ride on highways especially freeways on my m/c. In a year of ownership, I have maybe put 6-700 miles on it.

disappointed to be told by good local foreign car repair shop they could not work
on my lexus due to dealer only specialized tools. I thought due to right to repair law they had to offer
the tools to be purchased. They also have some specialized software, sounds like John Deere and big tractors.
I wrote back and asked the guy for specifics.

So now they will start stealing 10x more, hoping to lawsuit a protective home owner? Fart spray and glitter bombs aren't going to kill anybody, but I could understand not putting a real hand grenade in the box. This ain't Britain. In Houston, a 78 yo man got off from shooting 2 thieves that were stealing his neighbor's TV. It was a long drawn out trial. Both thieves were illegals. We need more jails and REAL judges/DA's.

The Motorcycle accident that laid me up was an antique that I changed the headlight reflector and bulb to the brightest, whitest LED that I could get.
It happened on a rural road going through a small town with a 35mph speed limit. I was also wearing leathers and a full helmet. No matter how I play it back, the only way I could have avoided it was to not be there on a bike.

I have not been on a street bike since.

good morning all
26 going up to 35 in sunshine today
not much planned for today, have a ten percent off coupon at supermarket I may
go use. Then later this afternoon brother picking me up to go to 1740 house in Lumberville for a
Friday afternoon drink. The owner is his closest friend, who also owns Holly Hedge, a large catering venue
not far from my home. I think they are booked up at least a year in advance with weddings and parties.

though I wonder....are weddings changing with the times? Big church weddings, country club, etc etc.
I've always thought simpler was better.
some poor groom's parents paying a hundred bucks a plate for rubbery chicken.
the financial planner in me thinks gosh if you only put that money away in long term savings...
but that's not how it goes usually

Frits, I was impressed with your commercial wrenches. Proto still in business.
pretty hard to wear out a quality box wrench
which is why that Craftsman is still around.

Good morning TBN!!
Right at the freezing mark this morning and calm. Going to make a run at 50 with sun.

Up to early this morning and to my surprise my wife was already up and working on house stuff.
Spent yesterday on the Macbook making it my own. I have always been a windows guy so it's a bit of a learning curve. I don't know why but when I fired it up it was ready to be reset.
Started on another leg arm. Marlin Model 25. Much better shape then the previous one I was working on.
Probably more of the same today. Or not.
I have a pile of boxes coming today too but likely no chance of porch pirates. We live 1/4 mile from the road and our mailman is great. Gets them to the house and if he doesn't see anybody leaves them in the truck or car.

Time for a second cup
Everyone have a great and safe day!!

in a situation too close to me, a young man was offered 50 thousand dollars at the Friday night dinner to not
marry his daughter the next day, because Father knew she was deeply mentally ill. Young man thought love would cure all.
I remember those days...
His wife committed suicide a year later.
Father knew best.

my second wife is permanently mentally disabled.
I did my very best but was too much for me.
one of my life's biggest failings was leaving those three inherited kids behind.
and then one of them committed suicide by OD.
The one who used to jump in my arms when I got home from work.
Always held myself responsible in some small way

hard to talk about mental illness but it sure is out there and folks
don't know how to deal with it.
