Good movies,,, well there are a few.......

For some reason I just cant get into other countries history when watching movies, but when it's USA history of pivotal military events of the past, long ago or recent I'm usually clued to the screen, sometimes they make me mad and sometimes I'm in awe of what they did.

Example of mad for me was saving Private Ryan, D Day, you mean to tel me there was no other way around that freaken beach without facing a slaughter, next was USS Indianapolis Men of Courage I think this one made me madder, someone really dropped the ball on that fiasco and tried to pin the blame on the captain, no one thought, hey did that ship come back, or hey where is that ship like in 5 hours instead 5 days.....

So therefore the new movie Midway really brought out some eye opening AWE moments, Imagine trying to attack Japanese war ships out in the middle of a ocean where the element of surprise is paramount, relying on intel from code breakers. Talk a bout a country unprepared for war, battleships all blown up, very few aircraft carriers. I remember hearing this Midway thing from 50 years ago in school but never read about it, guess I was waiting for the movie, I like how they brought up all these almost forgotten military leaders, like Nimitz, Doolittle, guess he reversed the meaning of his name.

Believe it or not youtube has free movies on their free movie channel. Often they are B films but for awhile they had Dances With Wolves. A decent film on there most would have thought risque was The Escort. More of a film oriented more towards women. It's a light comedy. No nudity just a scene or two where you know what's going on.

I see that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is on the free youtube channel, that was first rate comedy IMO, just wonder how much commercials are in these free movies.

I had satellite a few years ago, had all kinds of movies I thought that was great til I started watching a movie, first 25 minutes was good then the commercials was every flipping 8-10 minutes, I stopped watching movies and got rid of satellite, pay $25.00+/month then be bombarded by commercials no thanks.

How did you put an adblocker on a streaming device. I watch TV shows on my TV with a Nvidia shield and haven't figured out how to block Youtube ads with that device.

The wife is a TV addict. For the price of the satellite TV we could buy more DVDs than we could watch, but that is not an option. The news is about the only thing I watch, and that is available on the internet.

I was at a motel a few years ago when some movie came on which is supposed to be a classic, and I'm about the only person in the world who hasn't seen it. The first ten or twelve minutes was about 75% commercials and I knew that it would only get worse.
I don't remember what the movie was now, but am still the only one in the world who hasn't seen it.

On the recommendations of posters on another thread I joined Prime last night and started watching the series "Bosch" which is based on a book series featuring one of my favorite characters. They were right, it is a good series; yet I still prefer reading a book.

There are a couple of classics I can't seem to get through...Citizen Kane is one; I have never figured out what was so great about it, other than it got Orson Wells sued by Wm Randolph Hurst...and another one (and I hand my head in shame) is Oklahoma.
