Long story short: I want to add wheels to an implement that the factory doesn't offer casters. (Power broom)

Any good sources for something that I can bolt or weld on? I could make them from scratch, but if I can get them already made it would save time, and probably money.

Thanks in advance.

All the best,

Peter

Picture of the broom and about where you want to attach them might help.

I recall someone putting casters on the rear of a PT mower deck many years back. I think they were for some Italian mower.

I did a quick search for "mower deck caster wheel kit" in googly and there are bunches that might work for you.

Thanks! I wasn't having any luck with attachment casters, or variations thereof. eBay and Amazon showing lots of laminated or molded 10" (and 15") wheels assemblies with spacers. I tripped across one fraudulent site purporting to sell the same wheels for 1/3 the price, with an address in one state, a phone number for another (that they have recycled over a number of fraudulent companies), and website text that refers to a third location. Sheesh!

All the best,

Peter

Surplus Center has lots of casters. Maybe you can find something there. I made some for my chipper and used SC casters. They just slide into the square tubing.

I have used trailer tongue jacks bolted to the back of my snowblower housing instead of relying on the skids. But they would be better located on the auger centerline to follow the surface. I would imagine that to be the same for a power broom. Also my power broom for my walk behind Gravely has the wheels/caster behind the broom. It digs into the grass surface when it rises and not close enough going over the top of the rise. Hope this makes sense. Jon

Thanks. It makes sense to me.

I was think of putting a pair of wheels behind the broom, mainly thinking about where the center of gravity probably is. I like the adjustability of your solution.

If you are serious about getting casters that will work for the job, I'd suggest Caster City. They offer a wide variety of styles, helpful guidance and live people who can advise on what's best for any application. I used them for casters for my implement dollies, and got different models for implements of different weights. I bought them in 2010 and they are holding up fine.

Ha! I am in the process of doing exactly that on my rotary broom right now. I used a pair of heavy duty 8" swivel casters from Surplus center for mine. I'll post it up on my build thread when done, hopefully this week. I'm putting them in the same basic location as the factory option, but making mine adjustable.

Here's my build thread, if you are curious.

I am interested and thanks for the pointer. I need to build a Power-Trac to Skid steer adapter plus sort out the couplers before it is operational. My tractor has a quite useful draft control that may be all I need, but we will see.

All the best,

Peter
