.......So much of this type of thing ...made outside the USA...is IDENTICAL...made by the same "offshore" company...and if the "name plate" on the item is a HD aluminum foil..adhesive nameplate.........

Very True,

I have purchased air tools from Mac and Snap On tool trucks and have found their names affixed to the top of, and concealed manufacturers like "Astro Pneumatic" with that very same heavy foil label.

You laugh...but here's a true story!!

A few years back.. I had ruined a trimming push mower by using it to keep a short...but extremely steep bank cleaned...so I had to go shopping for a new one. It popped into my head that I needed a "2 stroke mower"...hence the "crankcase oil" wouldnt run away from the bearing! Smart aint I....:)

I go to the local place that sells Lawn Boys...and find the one I wanted and the "manager" had to get it ..new..still in the box...from th back room...and as he piddeled around I was reading the Lanwn Boy literature. I noticed they had brought out a "4 cycle" model...as they were always noted for 2 cycle mowers.

He brings mine to me and I comment on the new 4 cycle models and his answer was.. ( sit down now....) " I dont know how they did it??...They didnt make the engine any bigger and I dont know how they got those other two cycles in it!!!!!!!!..."

And this character was the STORE MANAGER!!!

Lucky it didn't have pneumatic tires with 40 or 50 lbs of air in each one..... You wouldn't have been able to lift it into your truck! ;)

I came home that day and told the little woman that story...and then added that as long as some people were like that in the world...I sure never had to worry about being UNemployed....:)

I tried to put what paint I think goes with each of the paints on your list but I'd appreciate your comments or corrections. I'm thinking of using PPG DCC single stage Acrylic Urethane to paint a tractor. I've used it painting engine compartments and wheels and things like that, I'm comfortable with it and wonder where you would put it on this list.
Thanks
Bill

Polyurethane
Acrylic base coat + Urethane clear coat PPG Concept DBC + top coat
Acrylic Urethane enamel single stage PPG Concept DCC
Acrylic enamel (Optional clear coat)
Acrylic enamel (w/o clear) PPG Delstar Single Stage
Alkyd oil base enamel (plus hardener) Valspar with hardener
Alkyd oil base enamel (without hardener) Rustoleum
Oil base enamel

clarkwd, Welcome.

I wouldn't change a thing......
Since PPG DCC is a two component single stage urethane...and more durable then acrylic enamels, it's looks to be in the correct order on your list. Another great attribute with DCC is it will go over and seal just about any pre existing top coats after scuffing, except lacquer based finishes.

Great first post. Got any pictures of your projects or tractors using the DCC?

This is my most recent project a 51 Fiat. The engine compartment was painted with PPG Concept DCC Single Stage. The body is intentionally left the way I found it.

To continue our paint discussion, do you have any recommendations on primer for tractors or under the hood and chassis applications. I usually use DP 74, or if things are rusty POR 15 but I've been looking for something a little easier to apply. My machinist uses High Temperature Last Blast from Goodson in a spray that needs to be baked for an hour after painting. Today I cleaned up an old cast iron tractor carburator and it will be a lot of mess and fuss to mix up a 1/4 cup of DP 74 to prime it. What would you use?

Sorry Bill,

I haven't found anything as good as the DP series of epoxies...

Beautiful restoration project.

I've had good luck with Ace Hardware enamel. Use it to paint my old JD's as well as my garden tractors.

I always get my paint at TSC..
Hey Soundguy, have you used any of the TSC implement/tractor paint long enough ago to have a good idea of how well it is going to hold up over time? Do you spray it or brush it on?

I`m just curious after having several bad experiences with Farm and Country implement paint that I sprayed. I had to reduce the paint to get it to spray and then it always faded significantly after a few months. Adhesion and protection were never a problem but the items never looked as good as they should have within a few months.

Thanks for any feedback.

How does one remove epoxy paint for a restoration. My old IH loader is painted with epoxy based paint, might have to heat scrape the entire thing.....
And other paint does not stick worth a darn to whatever kind of epoxy paint that is on there.
