I am in north east Texas on 25 acres of mostly wooded property. I have a Branson 3515h that I love. I have a rotary cutter which is ok in the heavy brush and saplings but I’m thinking a flail mower would be more suited for making and maintaining trails and keeping the blackberry and small trees at bay. I have 30hp out the pto to work with and I need something that would hold up to heavy use. I’m thinking something in the 60 inch range with hammers but it needs to be pretty tough. Anyone have experience with a good quality flail , not crazy expensive, around 3k and below that would fit?

Hello Mej13579,

A 60 inch flail for $3,000.00 with cast hammers with your mule is not going to work.
A boom mounted 48" orchard and vineyard flail shredder with cast hammers will fit
your machine very well but it will cost more than $3,000.00.

For your limited use purchasing a flail mower from a municipal auction will serve you better as
you will have a mower that can do what you want as long as you do not abuse it and as long as
you back over the brush to mow it on the first pass slowly and then drive forward slowly you will
knock all that growth down to 2 inches.

You need to keep that brush down to a 2 inch height to manage it and kill off the invasives.
