Good work gloves anyone ?

Egon,

I have some big blue welding gloves. They are OK for welding but not much more. They're very thick and cumbersome. I'm looking for something that has a good fit in the hand and then just the straight, stiff cuffs beyond. The welding glove in that style aren't made in XXL or XXXL. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Egon,

Duct Tape is the answer!

When I was handling rip rap a few years ago I was really tearing
up my gloves. I was building some hand stacked raised beds.
Holes would appear in no time in the fingers. I wrapped duct
tape on the gloves and problem solved. I saw somewhere that
some stone masons just rapped the tape around their fingers
but I tain't do'n that!

Bebster,

The XL size isn't any help. Robert and I need XXL (and I could actually wear XXXL without any problem).

Dan:

Duct tape, the universal tool. Most of my coveralls are held together with duct tape. When working with power tools usually wrap the wrists with duct tape.

On the fingers sounds interesting. I know it's often used on the feet for blisters.

Perhaps you may have to get a retailer to make a special order for you.

Bebster, those are the type of gloves I prefer! I believe they call them ropers gloves? Mine last about 3 months or so but they fit so well I can feel what I'm working on in cars etc.

They are very tight the first day you wear them but end up being a perfect fit. Even when they get soaked, they quickly return to perfect fit.

I ruin them on the 5" disc grinder generally, let a finger drag on the disc and it nics a stitch, pop apart soon after.

Everything I have tried goes bad quickly when handling rough things like concrete blocks and rocks. For general purpose, the less-than-$10 leather variety seem to hold up OK.

The old boy who sold me the Kubota was telling me about another customer of his that lives near me. He said that the guy ".....wasn't a real farmer. You could tell just by looking at him. He wore gloves when it wasn't even cold outside"...............chim

I found these Geier Gloves, and they come in size 12 (i.e., 12 inches around the knuckles of your dominant hand.) They don't, however, have much of a "Cuff", but they do cover your wrist. Can't vouch for quality from personal experience, but for $41 a pair /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, I'd expect them to be good!

Chris,

At that cost these gloves should come with a body to do the work for you.

They must supply the Government with their glove needs.

I have sworn by North Star brand, White Ox cotton gloves since I was old enough to need gloves.(Started getting into the heavier chores about 12 y.o.. Good luck with this generation) They've got about a 10 oz. back, and a 16-20 oz. palm. You might try looking for a website, I haven't. The best thing I can say about White Oxes is that have they been almost universally used by N.W. loggers for handling everything from chokers to chain saws for about 50 years.I know a bunch of you guys are from colder weather country than me, but as long as they're dry, they're fine in cold weather.(An extreme cold event around here is 10 degrees F)
They're lousy when it gets cold AND wet. I'm generally working within 10 miles of the beach at any given time, so it's generally not such a big deal. However, I don't have a cab, and winter work can be tiresome in raingear. Do have a pair of neoprene gloves that I use in the winter when I'm running the boom flail, but they're the sportsman type with a kind of slick patch on the trigger finger, and tends to slip when I'm crowding in on that control
