Gooseneck, 5th Wheel, or Bumper pull?

Yeah, I'm still getting used to the forum and its "unread thread" feature. I thought I "cleared" everything before I started reading... so I would just read the new stuff.

Oh well!

The ironic thing is I am a computer guy... sometimes I miss the obvious!

Thanks all...

Something that I always have to keep in mind.... there are new people on these forums - ALL THE TIME!

The subject matter being discussed here - is always turning over and over with new readers and new owner's!

So, those "Dead Horses" are always gonna rise up and somebody is gonna ride off on 'em, too!!! (And that's a good thing, actually..)

Thanks guys for the info. The thread may be old and so are some of the fine tractors and trailers found here on the site. In fact a 4 yr old is still pretty young in the equipment world.

The goose / 5th / receiver hitch thread will never die so long as they are still available for purchase new / used. Back in 1969 I saw a 5th hitch on a car trunk (caddy) pulling a small camper.

Want to see something entertaining in regards to towing.

Does anyone know where I can get a gooseneck plate that will mount in the rails of my 5th wheel base I'm located in New Hampshire. I've checked Tractor supply (only have flat plate) and 2 camping places (not gooseneck friendly). I even contacted NH equestrian.com and they had no clue.

I guess this is why gooseneck trailers are cheaper than pintle trailers

I think the issue is he needs it today or tomorrow, so he was trying to find one local to him.

But some just plain don't get that.

Having just bought a tractor, I'm now looking for a trailer to put it on. I was hoping the knowledgeable people here could help educate me on some of the differences.

I'm planning on buying one of the new Tundra pickups, which pull 10,600 pounds. Much as I'd love a dump trailer, it probably doesn't work for me now price/weight/size wise.

The question is, what are the advantages of the different hitch arrangements? Obviously, a bumper hitch leaves the truck bed empty, which is good. But is it noticeably harder to tow than a gooseneck? And how about 5th Wheel style hitches - are those even made for trailers?
Thanks for the advice,

charles

A feature I'm not willing to give up with for a goose neck.

A gooseneck does not take up too much room in the bed. My 5th wheel hitch does though... Can't load much in the bed though...

My 5th wheel pulls so nicely though; much better than a comparable weight bumper/pull behind. My 5th wheel is only about 7500lbs. I have towed 7000lbs on a bumper pull. The 5th wheel just tows sooooooo much nicer.

A feature I'm not willing to give up with for a goose neck.
