My guess would be it' cheaper/easier/safer to trade the one you have for a different one. I have a ex boss/good friend that has made that conversion onver and back for a 30" + combine header trailer. He's a bit of an expert at that stuff so it's cheap and easy for him. Me.. I'd buy a different one.
NOTE: HIS application is a custom AP anyway. That alone makes it more cost effective for him. He engineered and built the whole trailer for crying out loud... holds two 30' draper headers... Loads flat and it folds them up vertical for transport... really neat trailer....
I looked into this a while back myself. I really like the trailer I have but the trailer shop suggested that it would not be worth it and to get another trailer. After talking with them I decided they were right. I have yet to get a new trailer but I am not in a big hurry and am doing my research.
Oh, the trailer shop is very reputable and they outfitted my truck. I have a lot of trust in the shop and I feel that they were not just trying to make a sale, but rather trying to keep a good customer happy.
If you have the time, tools and ability to do it yourself it may be cheaper to change it over but if you need to pay someone to do it just get a new trailer if you really need a gooseneck. Plus most goosenecks are just more heavy duty than bumper pulls so you don't really gain much from changing them over.
Thanks for all the replys,,, after talking to a welder buddy of mine ,, "with the same answer as yall "" ,he said it is cheeper to just get another trailer...so maybe in the spring i will look into it...in the meen time ill keep useing tag along... thanks ..bruce
Just an FYI. Gooseneck trailers and bumper pull's differ in axle placement / location. Unless you're doing the work yourself it probably would not be cost effective. I don't know what weight class you are looking for but Appalachian Trailer sells a 12K gooseneck for under $4000. I have one and am quite satisfied with it. I also have a 20' tilt bed bumper pull by H&H trailer. They also have goosenecks available. There are many trailer companies that have them.
