Thanks Bird and Hoss. I do get some good deals but I walk away from alot too because a guy doesn't want to deal. Whenever I buy something like that trailer I always take cash as well. I think that makes a difference too.

Very well could be John. I never in my life saw either one of my grandparents pay retail or what someone wanted for anything. They were both pretty shrewd with their money. After my dad was killed they pretty much became my parents.

A few years back, I decided I wanted a dually pickup. Didn't want to shell out the money for a new one, as I had never owned a dually and didn't know if I'd like it. There was one at a local dealership that he had $9995.00 on the front window of, so I took 90 $100.00 bills with me. As it turned out, I didn't have to try to deal with him after the test drive. The truck was a junker. My son told me he had seen another one at a different dealer, so we went to look at it. This was a nicer truck. Not too many miles, full power, the whole works and marked at $12,995.00. Told the salesman I wasn't even interested in driving it as I didn't want to spend that much money, but he talked me into it anyway. Probably figured that once I drove it, I'd spend the extra. When we went inside and sat down to discuss the price, I told him that all I was prepared to pay was $9000.00 and that had to include sales tax. You'd thought I hit him between the eyes with a sledge hammer. He made about a half a dozen trips into the sales manager and kept coming back with lower numbers, but was still a long way off. I finally sent my son out to my truck to get my "money" envelope and bring it inside. Laid the $100.00 bills all out on the table for him and told him once again, this was my only offer. I drove home in the truck. My son has bought a couple of vehicles there since then, and the salesmen still ask him if that was his dad that laid all the $100.00 bills on the table. Guess they're not used to dealing in actual cash money, but it sure did it's job that day.

I take the amount of cash that I've already decided I'm going to pay for something and that's it. If I buy it for that great and if not so be it. This trailer I did the same thing. I asked the guy what he had to have on it and he said $4200. I told him I brought 32 hundreds and that was it. He said he couldn't sell it for that and I said that was alright he could call me if he changed his mind. He asked about my Ford as he had a Dodge Cummins and bs'd a little. He said he could take $3500. I said 3200 was all I had with me. He finally said if I really had the cash he'd take it. I pulled out the money and we hooked her up.

Great deal on your trailer! From $4500 to $3200! You'll find it very handy. I only use mine occassionally but when a big trailer is needed it is great. Recently did some work for a friend and hauled my tractor, backhoe, tiller, bush hog, and loader on one trip and still had room for more. Hauled 45' trusses for my pole barn this summer on it. (yes, they still hung over by 10-12') With your horses, it will be great for hauling hay. The aluminum bed should help keep the weight down.

I saw a used 20 foot gooseneck today. I would love to pull behind my truck.
It is a flat bed - not sure of the other specs ??? It is heavy duty looking for sure.
He is asking $3800. What do you guys think, pricewise and maybe what I should look for in quality?

Things to consider on a gooseneck trailer. Weight capacity - on a 20' trailer, I would guess 10000 to 12000 lbs. (could be less than 10000 lbs). Brakes on all 4 wheels or two. Dovetail or fixed bed? Can the dovetail be raised or lowered? Spare tire? Radial or belted tires? Rub rail or not? Ramps? Do ramps pull out and attach vs flip over ramps? Is there a stand or mechanism to prevent the front end of the trailer from lifting when loading from the rear of the trailer? Two front jacks vs one jack? Size and type of crossmembers on bed. Are there tie rings for loads? Is there a battery for locking the brakes on trailer if becomes disconnected from pull vehicle? Many of the above are options on some trailers and standard on others. All the the above mentioned items can add considerable cost compared to a "basic trailer" of similar size and weight capacity.
