Gopher blaster/rodent blaster

Well not nearly the fun, but if you just buy a HF weed burner with auto ignitor for $29.99 it will do away with the underground pest just as easily. Maybe not even need to ignite, just fill hole with propane and suffocate the little ##$#$. Propane being heavier than air will settle into the lower regions of the burrow and displace the air. No need to ignite unless you just want to watch it burn.

It is insane to charge $1600 for that Rodenator gizmo.

I figured I'd start with exactly what you mention. Around here, we only get moles, and where I'm now at, the ground is soooo compacted, I'm thinking of importing a few!

For $1600 I'll continue to use my spring type gopher traps. That's simply crazy expensive.........

It only makes sense if you're removing gophers in a large acreage (or for customers) and don't have a fire season. The people who eradicate gophers as a business here use cinch traps.

To answer the question of how do you know they work, I rake or drag the area I just worked on,leaving no mounds, then watch for new activity.

I too, sometimes use the burning sulfur/propane torch method, but I find that occasionally, you get a smart gopher that plugs the tunnel when they hear the activity on the surface. Again raking the mounds will show new activity in the area

Traps are hit and miss for me, although I do have a lucky blue cinch trap that has done well for me.

Cinch traps only work in active burrows. When I an trapping I have to go out at least once a day to check for new burrows and place traps. I'll do that until I have eradicated all the gophers in the area I'm trapping (a large lawn and a garden) then I can ignore it for a few weeks until a new gopher arrives. It's taken me a while to get effective with the traps. With some gophers it takes a number of resets of the trap to catch them. But I can pretty much guarantee that I'll get them eventually.

On some of the traps I've done some tuning to make them trip easier- sanding down the end of the trigger wire and the sliding wire where it slides in the base. It helps some.

That is way overpriced for the hardware you get!
