This morning my sister brought my mail to me. I got a big yellow envelope in my name. When I opened it up. There's was a 12 page long lease agreement for mineral rights to the property.

It stated me and my dad signed a lease agreement on November 1st 2012. We never signed any agreement. :confused2:

It's also states my dad and me are both single men. They got it right about me being single but my dad is married. lol

Were thinking someone signed an agreement in our name. I've been trying to call the number on the lease agreement, but am just getting an out of service message. (Course it could have something to do with the hurricane knocking out phone systems)

So I'm not quite sure if it's a scam or what? Has anyone here received anything like this in the mail? We plan to get it checked out at the court house Monday. See what they have to say.

Also the only land I own along with my dad is our shop which isn't even an acre of land. The rest of the property, even where my house sits is all in my dads name.

Something about this smells fishy to me.

It seems to me that that 12 page lease either has your names signed to it, or it doesn't.
And if it does, the signatures are either real or forged.
Any time you execute a document of that nature, get all signatures notarized whether the other party requires it or not.

If the lease you recieved does not have your signatures on it already, somebody is probably trying to scam you into signing now.

I've looked the lease over again and there are no signatures of ours present or even any signatures on it. And after reading into it further it states, that it wants us to sign the agreement in front of a notary republic.

And send the signed lease back to them in the provided envelope. There contradicting themselves in the letter.

On the first page it said we had already signed it in front of a notary republic, but then goes on to say they want us to sign the enclosed lease in front of a notary republic. :confused2:

My scam ometer is registering so high that I think it's gonna bust.

Time to get to the court house and stop any further action on the lease until able to see what has happened.
Here a lease was signed for 40 acre of mineral rights @ 25 and Acre.and then later the county notified them the mineral rights had been sold and recorded into deed and could not be changed.
Shyster's in any area where money is flowing and owners believe the promises of a stranger.

I might add Go to the Kansas oil and Gas commission look up the area where your land is being leased by Section Township and Range Then read down to what the commission is allowing the leasing to be given .

Just a number but say it is one thousand and then the landsman will attempt to lease for 10 bucks if you sign Guess who gets the 990 dollars. per acre.
And should he talk you into selling . he will collect all the payments of minerals.

SCAM ! Contact your local law enforcement, make a report, follow up with a contact call to DA, go to courthouse and look up land records/lease records, then contact clerk of court and make sure no lease was falsely filed...this sort of scam occurred quite often down here due to huge haynesville shale natural gas play, as a LEO I took several reports of the same nature, protect yourself n dad by starting now...just my :2cents: worth...

Rich

Edit: down here at the height of the haynesville shale leasing frenzy some landowners were getting mega money, multiple recorded instances of payments exceeding $15,000.00 per acre bonus plus a quarter % in royalties once production began on a well in the owner's section, lots of money leads to lots of attempts to get it !!

if it really says "notary republic", then it is a scam.

Shred the letter now. There is no agreement, they are trying to trick you

Keep it for evidence... Might be the last straw needed to make the case...
