Love the grapple and the coating

I'll give you a break as you are obviously a prime candidate to get ripped off by the same scammer. Maybe you should upgrade to the gold plated grapple as that will look cool and won't rust either.

The point of this forum is to share ideas and engage in discussions. Giving the thumbs up for a bad idea doesn't contribute much.

If someone can give me a reason to galvanize grapples I'd love to hear it. Using a grapple to havest giant clams has already been noted so give us another reason. I have a five year old grapple stored in the open 900 feet from the Atlantic Ocean. Guess what: no rust problem. Trailers are galvanized because we dip them in salt water or use them on salted roads.

Face it, this guy was sold a scam. Galvanization of grapples is a marketing ploy in this setting; nothing else. Buyer beware as it implies the manufacturer may have limited knowledge of grapple manufacture or use. Why are other manufacturers grapples not galvanized? If anyone has evidence of a grapple rusting out I'd love to hear it. I'd also like to see how much of the zinc coating remains after digging for a few hours with his new grapple. Have you bothered to notice that very few tractor implements are galvanized? Ever wonder why?

Nobody pissed in his cornflakes some people are just jack***es and have to have a opinion about everything and I agree he probably paid less for his toy grapple, but at $1650 I sell a lot of them and I like the one I bought. On the galvanized they build all of there premium equipment with it so why would they change there factory just to paint the grapples when your not paying any more for the galvinied? Like I said in a earlier post we have been a dealer with Modern equipment for 7 yrs, and have very happy customers so if I'm gettin ripped by buying a grapple that's heavy built and I'm happy with whys it any of his business. Sorry if I that offends u island tractor but sometimes u just have to say hey that a nice unit and not be jealous of somebody's new toy.

Instead of personal attacks, why not just post the evidence for galvanization of grapples? Why don't companies like Anbo, WRLong, ATI etc etc offer galvanization if it has been shown to be an advantage?

I'm thinking we have some newbies who have been tricked into paying extra and are kinda defensive about it. Just show us some evidence or even that other established grapple manufacturers offer this "upgrade". Otherwise it seems to me you guys have been duped and one of you is a dealer who doesn't mind duping customers.

Evidence guys, provide evidence or just stay quiet and stop passing on bogus information here.

I'm not a dealer. Those are some nationally recognized and relatively high end brands. WRLong is in NC. Anbo I believe is west coast.

It isn't hard to spend $3000-4000 on an Anbo which is why I made the point that high end grapples don't seem to bother with galvanized metal. WrLong and ATI grapples go for roughly what you paid, maybe a few Franklins more.

Ok im still tryin to figure this out I sell my grapples for the same price or less and im scamming my customers? Now like I said in the last post they galvinize all of there premium products, they build a lot more equipment than just grapples!! So why would they paint it when there factory is already set up to galvinize and it works and lasts very well? The main answer U have been looking for the whole time why everybody doesnt galvinize there products it costs more to get set up then a paint booth and most companys these days want to build as cheap and fast as possible.

I went to the Modern Ag website and therin lies the answer for possibly why the products are galvanized. They also (amongst other large holdings) manufacture products for off-shore drilling platforms and probably already have in place a hot dip plant. It looks as if most of their attachments from cutters to bale spears are galvanized with the exception of in-ground tines, etc.
I think their hot dip protection is a great idea, that coming from an offshore sailor and the owner of a few twenty + year old galvanized garbage cans.

My biggest concern with this thread is that it started like a typical post about a new equipment purchase, then it turns out that you are a dealer.

It smells a little like spam.

Let's try to reboot this conversation.

It appears to me based on a number of posts after the initial post that:

1) the galvanized finish is simply what this company uses instead of paint because the galvanize a lot of other equipment and therefore pesumably can galvanize as easily as paint. Fine, I have no problem with that assuming it doesn't cost more than paint as it would be most likely the same as paint as a barrier to protect the steel. Both will rub off the bottom tines after the first few hours of digging anyway. Grapples as a general rule don't rust out as there really isn't any place that water can pool.

2) Pretty clearly the OP's initial suggestion that galvanization would make the grapple stronger somehow is hogwash.

3) $1600 for what looks to be a 66" or 72" double top tine root grapple is neither the least nor most expensive price on the market. I don't know this particular manufacturer but from the photos it looks like a typical light duty grapple.

4) As a general rule, folks on TBN don't piss in each others breakfast cereal but prefer to engage in evidence based debate when disagreements arise.

Happy grappling.
