I think the statute of limitations is up for this so I can tell it. When I was about 13 my brother and I would catch a jar full of grasshoppers and walk to a little pond that was overstocked with bass. We would throw a grasshopper out in the pond and when the bass would come up to get the hopper we would shoot at the grasshopper with a rifle. It would stun the bass and they would belly up. Then we'd take a long branch and rake them to the bank. Sometimes we'd hit a fish and it wasn't worth eating then. That's my fishing story...:)

Use to have guys that would take fishing poles on Navy cruises. Would catch all kinds of strange critters from deep water around the world.

We used to do that with ants, bluegill and rocks. That brought back good memories. Thanks. :)

We had a family fishing trip up the John Day river in Oregon. the center of the state. A small creek meandering through a pasture. We were catching small frypan sized trout thru the week.
Dad told me "I'm gonna fish my way up the stream; in about an hour you come get me in the truck" About an hour passed and I told Mom "I should go get dad" she said "never mind, he will just fish his way back" so I didnt.
15 minutes later he comes carrying in a 2' fish. Now most of the trout we had been getting were 6 inches long! Where the heck did he get that froim? We are miles away from a fish store...
we compared it to a trout, it was a close match but for the size. We cleaned it and saw the eggs... oops a steelhead. we ate the evidence that night and i wont say that I almost caught one by hand and Grandma tried to get a few also; but the look of shock when Dad came into camp with that huge fish....

Moss, that was a good one and brought back a incident from back in the high school days in the 60's We used to use dinomite caps to stun the fish, but a friend of mine decided he wanted all the fish so he went with a 1/4 stick of boom boom. When he did he blew out the dam of the pond (about 1/4-1/2 acre in size), yep, he drained the pond. Not only did he get the fish but also a extended stay at the cross bar hotel.

My sister told me this one last weekend....

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll be gone for the whole weekend.

I read it as "teach a man to fish and he will set in a boat drinking beer all weekend ;)"

Need a good fishing story? Here's mine. I usually go with my brother and 2 friends every year to the Cowpasture River in Bath Co. VA. Unfortuneately, I was slow in booking and our usual B&B was booked. So I use the web and find a place I had booked 6 years ago. A beautiful cabin on 2.5 miles of private mountian stream. This 4000 acre "farm" was just as imaculate. After getting there at 7 we all decided to drink our dinner and get up when the trout would be there. Now in the past 9 years I've done this I have caught exactly 2 rainbows on a Panther spinner with gold sheild and orange tail. This morning--like 9am we were to catch our dinner because the nearest Dollar General was 55min from us. We split the river, two went .5 miles south and the other .5 north. We would meet at the cabin at noon to see if we would be eating DG's finest. 20 min I had my first swirl. By noon I had one in the kreel and 2 more had spit. I knew that the afternoon we would slay them. We met up with the two that went north and they had 3 at least 22 inches long. After filling a cooler and heading to the start of the property, we would pull 2 out at a time. After releasing I would bet 30 trout we went back to the cabin to filet and fry. The next morning the owner pulls up to wish us well and sees our spinning rods. Come to find out this is a fly rod only, catch and release, and no one has used a "cheeter pole" for the past 6 years! We were requested to never come back.

The greatest thing about fishing is even if you don't catch a fish, you've still wasted the day.
