well, in the last 2 weeks, i sold the JD 2240/520FEL; and got my 1020 gas burner back from being overhauled. It had broken rings on 2 cylinders, one of the pistons was scored pretty bad, so it took one new sleeve and piston, new rings on the other two cylinders, and new bearings. with the parts and all it cost me $725; 12 hours labor plus parts; and the tractor starts better than it has since i bought it in @87..; the first thing that happened was a head bolt broke while removing the head; if i had attempted the overhaul, i'd had to load the tractor and take it to a machine shop, but this feller welded a washer to the remaining bolt, and then welded a nut to the washer, and unscrewed the bolt..pretty slick..
now i am on the quest for power steering again, found an aftermarket unit, but the company want sell to individuals, so i am shopping some more.
