Hey guys,
Just took delivery last Monday of a spankin' new GC 2310! In the last five days I have:
Dug out the 100 ft long ditch along the front of my property,
Moved a 30 in. dia dead tree trunk to the burn pile
Moved two other dead trees to the burn pile
Cleaned up about two tons of pine needles
Box bladed 300 feet of driveway
Cleaned out a small creek to drain properly
Got it buried once and out by using the hoe
Mowed the entire place
Loaded my old yard tractor in the pickup with the FEL
Broke my new tractor (Bad hose fitting from the factory)
Fixed my tractor (Got new hose from the dealer warranty)
Drove it to the car wash for a bath and stopped in at Sonic for a Coke on the way home ( They gave it to me free)
Gotta say I'm having a blast with the new toy. The wife was very hostile when I spent all that money, but is now oozing with admiration when she looks at all I have accomplished so quickly. She now says I did the right thing!!!
Funny thing... I seem to have discovered a whole bunch of friendly neighbors the last couple of days... Hmmmmm.... I had no idea so many nice folks lived around me....
Anyhow, needless to say, I am so far pretty well sold on the new addition to the family. Any of you who are considering the purchase of one of these against the Orange kind, compare the specs side-by-side. I had decided to buy the Orange one until I did so. I am sure I would have been pleased in either case, but I think the Red Tractor is just a smidgeon better across the board.
For those of you who are replacing a lawn tractor, be aware that this thing is a LOT heavier than your old tractor in case you have soft or boggy ground. When the dealer showed up with my new tractor, I was a bit surprised at how BIG this thing is... I thought he had brought the wrong one. Even though I had climbed on and played with it at the dealer, It looked much smaller there alongside all those huge tractors. Don't kid yourself, this is one serious little tractor that can do some very serious work.
I ordered the TLB, a 60" mower deck, a 4' MF Box Blade (Very Heavy duty), and both Turf and AG tires. I have tried it all out during the last five days and I am pleased to say that it all works very well. I find that it helps if you plan out your daily work schedule before you start because, even though it is easy to change the tractor up, it takes a bit of time to swap things around (especially the mower deck since you have to pull the FEL to install it).
Problems? A few minor ones:
I spoke about the hose (bad from factory)
Got a fussy QD on the FEL valve that wants to spit when hose is unplugged -- might have to replace
Keeping an eye on one FEL Bucket cylinder for a possible leak
Thinking of moving the yellow flashy lights to the inside of the ROPS for better protection from overhead tree damage -- MF should have thought of that one!!!
The rear PTO guard is poorly designed and gets in the way sometimes
The more I do with it, the more I want to do with it. It is a pleasure to use. The controls are smooth, the steering is precise, it is quiet and even gets along at apretty good clip.
The 2310 feels, rides, and moves like a larger tractor when the Ag tires, loader and backhoe are installed, and feels kinda like an overgrown Caddilac of a Yard Tractor with turf tires and mower deck in place. As a mower, it takes more effort than the yard tractor to get around trees and it occasionally bites the turf during very sharp turns, in addition to being TALLER than the yard tractor. I am going to have to trim under some of my trees to get more clearance. I am not sure that I have the wheels set correctly on my mower because mine turn most of the time when I am mowing. However, I am also mowing quite close. I want to get another set of blades (shudder) I hope I won't have to take out another loan to pay for them...
In any case, after one week, I am already at about the four week point had I used my old equipment. I have another week before I get back to my job and I plan to have the spring cleanup totally finished and get in a day or two of fishing to celebrate!
If you think you need one of these -- you probably do, if you just want one to play with -- get it anyway. I look forward to a day when there's a chicken in every pot and a Massey Ferguson in every garage!
Happy tractoring!
