Simply put, here's how I assembled my box blade.

Attach the large supports inside the vertical rails with the bolt heads on the outside and the nuts on the inside. Attach the small supports inside that same rail with the bolts the same way. Attach the other, upper end inside the large support with the bolts facing the same way. Turn your tines around and you're good to go.

I hope this explains it well. It's really a piece of cake to do. My only concern after I'd done it was whether or not I'd put the supports on the proper side of the rail and, fortunately, I had. It just seemed like the natural way to go but, of course, then I got to thinking about it and wondering so I asked. Jim, as always, was most helpful. Good luck with your new toys. I hope you like yours as well as I do mine. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Gary_in_Indiana,

I am sure I will enjoy mine. Put mine together the same as you did. I ended up getting the 30 series and man can I say this is one tough and heavy built box blade. I don't think I could hurt it if I tried!

The end plates on mine are shorter in the front than in the rear which should make it able to dig in better. The box blades I have used in the past have not been designed this way and the sides always fought againt the cutting action.

Are yours designed the same as mine? You got the 20 series right?

I have a neighbor who has a 1920 and it is tough and reliable. He cuts 5 acres of fields every week with it for years and it runs like a champ. Very durable........

bnixon,
Can you post a how you did it with the finish mower? I'm going to get one eventually and would benefit from your sharing of the FC RFM experience, thanks, bw

I did get the allegedly "Light Duty" 20 series. I doubt my Deere 4200 could even move your 30 series. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif My 20 series is as heavy duty as I'll ever need.

As to the end plate design, I'm going to have to look tomorrow to answer that. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif Sitting here right now I can picture it both ways. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Just another example of age taking it's toll. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

May I politely ask you what you had to give for that 72" finishing mower and also what is the preference, side discharge or rear. I would appreiciate hearing from you. Undecided what to buy. James

I suspect you could pick one up for around $1100-$1200. As far as side or rear irst Choice only comes in rear. I prefer rear as it spreads out the clippings. If you don't let the grass get too out of hand you can barely see the cut grass.

Hope this helps,

BrettW,

The RFM was very easy to assemble. The instrctions are good and have pretty good pictures. This is one of the first items I have assembled that I did not have to take something apart and try again! You should have no problems. One little tip that helped me is I put the deck on jack stands. This elevates it to a nice working height while sitting and allows easy assembly of the wheels. See attached.

Hope this helps!
