When I was a kid the neighbors across the road rented their land to a large local dairy farmer. They proceeded to get one large John Deere stuck in the drained swamp right in front of our house.

They hooked up another JD and got that stuck. Then a third JD was hooked up and got stuck also. Finally all three were pulled out by a large CAT dozer. I wish I had a digital camera back then!

Something I'm not too proud of. Our crews were putting in 5 miles of water line last winter/spring. In one area, we had to dig along side a pond, so consequently, in that location, we could not put our spoil pile on the pond. My super smart loader operator thought he would deliver gravel to "bed" the pipe by going over the ice. The photo's show the result after his second or third trip across the ice. I fired the loader operator, foreman and two others that watched him drive on the pond. Presently, I'm dealing with the labour board, as one of the guys I dismissed thinks he should receive some compensation................I'd really love to compensate this guy!!!!!!

I'm guessing that truck in the last pic is on dry land? Looks like it but with some people you never know. :)

I'm sorry to read that story, especially about the guy seeking compensation. The gall of some people. Absolutely NO consideration for the loss you incurred and now wants to get something out of it on top. I'm hoping that the labor board will not take the same view as him, without any regard for your loss. Too bad you couldn't sue him personally for what he caused.
Good luck,

Good luck,

Actually he might. My brother had an accident when in a company truck and they deducted the insurance deductable from his paycheck. I asked our CFO here and he thought they could do it. In Texas anyway.

Hello all, I thought I'd better weigh in with my own pictures. Happily, they're not of my tractor but I did witness the whole thing. A friend of mine, Joe, has a summer (and winter) cottage on the lake near my cottage (where I keep and use my NH TC26). His neighbour, Bob, worked a deal where Bob offered the contractor his existing cottage as part payment for the contractor to build a new cottage for Bob. So the contractor decided to wait until winter and pull Bob's old cottage across the (hopefully) frozen lake the other side where the contractor could then tow it to a vacant lot.
Well we had rather mild winter this year. The lake didn't freeze too early, but everyone was starting to worry that winter would pass and their plan would crumble. You can guess where I'm going...they rushed things a little and decided to snowplow the lake and pull the cottage across. What crumbled was the ice, and a really nice really new new holland tractor went under. It was shallow, so it didn't go all the way. After a few hours they just smashed the ice with a backhoe all the way to the tractor and pulled it out. It made for a great afternoon of watching with a glass of wine and a warm fire, looking out over the lake from my friend's cottage. In the end they actually DID get the cottage across, a couple of weeks later, much to the surprise of all the neighbours on the lake!
