You need to think up a better way to tell when the mains are back on :)
Looks great.
I'd like to install a beeper on the main breaker box with a switch so I could turn it on when the power is off and would start beeping when it comes back on.

I installed an LED in my kitchen with a switch so I can turn it off when normal power is on.

Thanks for the link, I added one to my Amazon order.

Was just about to post the same unit. Looks like you might find one for ~$10 cheaper if you shop around, but it's worth the cost at either price point. I have one as well. :) Pretty neat little idea; it's basically a large and loud non-contact voltage sensor!

Very Nice. Looks clean - I like the lift plate. I have one piece of advice. But I can imagine you will be smarter than I was. DON'T LOAN IT OUT TO ANYONE. EVER. NEVER. NO ONE. And that is it.
I have one generator that is mobile, a friend asked me if he could borrow it to use with his little trailer at a sporting event. I hadn't needed it and hadn't used it for about 6 mos - Said OK. He forgot to mention he wanted to keep it, I guess. Well no problem, after 6 months, I told him I wanted it back. He was nice, Oh, sure. And he returned it. About 2 months later, the power went out at the house. I shut the mains off, hooked it up as usual. Started the generator. It smoked within about 10 seconds. Shut it off and disconnected it from the panel. Got my favorite Fluke meter out - --and found he has changed the wiring on the power cable. WHY? To this day, I cannot answer that. I was lucky - everything was ok, except it smoked the furnace - cost me $765. I will NEVER loan out a generator again. Any yes, I was not very smart. I just never thought anyone would do something like that.

Nice project - well done. 20 years? Way to go.

Thanks for the compliment.
I have another 7Kw BlackMax that I can loan out if someone needs a generator. It was a freebie that was in a flood and needed an engine block and some cleaning up, but runs great now.
The only way I'd let someone borrow this one is if they give me a $4000 deposit.
