gpm flow question

Hello,

My tractor has a pump flow of 13.9 gpm. I'm looking at a diverter kit - one is rated at 13 gpm and the other is rated at 15 gpm. Is one a better choice than the other? Thanks, FredSG

I would use the 15 GPM diverter

Are you talking about your 4310?

If so, you DONT have 13.9gpm. Thats total flow of which 5.3gpm is JUST the steering.

You only have 8.6gpm available for loader and implements.

But beyond that, whats the difference in the two diverters other than 13 vs 15 gpm? Price?, Brand?, availability? Quality?

I was looking at the Universal Diverter offerings from Summit - someone on You Tube used the Summit diverter with 15 gpm, and then I read that there is a possibility of hydraulics "overheating" from constant movement if the diverter gpm is rated too high? Not sure I understand the heating comment. So I thought I'd post the original question.

When I emailed Summit their email response was to select the 15 gpm diverter. I just thought the 13 gpm diverter would be a closer/lower acceptable match for my 4310.

Valves typically have a flow rating based on either a performance limit where they may not shift or operate above a given flow or based on a given pressure loss at a given flow.

The concern for heat is based on the pressure loss through the diverter at a given flow.

Since diverter is typically not a metering control valve going larger is not a concern like using a 25 GPM loader valve on a 5 GPM circuit

Larger wont hurt. But if this is indeed for the 4310, you only have 8.6gpm, NOT 13.9. So either valve would work. Honestly if all else is equal, go with whats cheaper
