I don't have a box blade so I'm thinking to use my loader to do the grading. I've done it last year and it worked but it took quite a while as I had to do multiple pass to scrape the road (going backward).
Should I remove the ballast box (~600 lbs) from the pth so that I would have more weight on the loader ? (keep in mind this is just for grading, i.e. the loader is empty). However this means less traction on the rear wheels. Which option would work better to speed up the job ?

I don't think the rear mounted weight will have much difference on the results. The weight of the loader arms and bucket is the main factor in how well you can grade with your bucket. Removing the weights will have some impact on your results, but don't expect too much of an impact by doing removing the rear weights.

Just my opinion though. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Put some weight in the bucket. Also, moisture conditions will have a significant effect /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I assume you are tilting the bucket down so you can use the front edge to scrape with. Just a word of caution about that. If you are working in loose material it's probably OK, but if your drive or road is hard-packed or has larger rocks in it, you can really put some severe shock on the loader pivots that way. The more angle on the blade, the greater the impact when it gets hooked on something.
