Grand L 3940 vs. Mahindra 4035

Art, will you please tell us why it is that you feel that the Mahindra 4035 is better compared to the L4400. You do know that Mahindra has different levels of tractors just like Kubota does, don't you? Mahindra's 4035 is far from an entry level tractor and has std features that are options on the Grand L 3940.

One decision that I always stick with is - who's going to be around in 10-20 years.

Seems Companies have no problem stopping production on anything they feel like whenever they feel like it.

Take Ford discontinuing the Expedition, GM no more Hummer, Saturn GONE, etc.etc.

You want to buy something that pretty stable and that to means Kubota. All Companies come in with a lot of fan fair and great service and great prices, then leave like a thief in the night.

You can beat yourself up over an over looking at each brand. I think the Mahindra is a nice tractor but I ruled it out quickly. I had originally was going to finace part of the cost but Mahindra does it differently than Kubota. With Kubota you get the best price you can and if you pay cash you get a cash discount. With Mahindra you get a "special" price if you want to take advantage of the 0% financing.

That's like a car dealer saying we can get your monthly payment down to this while trying to hide the fact of how much you will pay over the life of the loan. I'm a give me your best price and if I like it I'll buy it or move on.

As for options the only thing I noticed was rear work lights. At the end of the day I haven't seen a different brand's model that I would want as much as my GL. I've tried NH, Kioti, Case, Mahindra, Bobcat, and even a Jimna. I sat on a JD but the dealer wasn't open so I didn't get to drive it.

Y'all had me going there for a minute because there's no jerky hitch problems
with our L3940.

I will say this, the Auto Throttle and Stall Guard are worth whatever the price
difference is between the Mahindra and the Kubota, you can take that to the
bank. Nobody else has it but you can bet they're trying to get it.

I asked for the price difference the other day and haven't received an answer, if one
is seriously considering the Mahindra the price difference would have to be huge for me.

Just an opinion about Mahindra from a Kubota guy. They are reportedly one of the world's largest tractor manufacturers, but are just breaking into the US market. So you can't dismiss them out of hand, even though they seem like the new kid on the block in our country. Obviously, trying to gain a foothold here means they will be very competitive on price and also try to offer equal or better value compared to more established makes. Equally obviously, dealerships and parts availability may not be as well developed. They certainly seem to have a pretty good advertising budget. Radio and TV spots, magazines, etc.

Is it worth taking a chance on buying their product? I don't know, but I'd give them a fair chance and a serious look. Lots of guys did that with Belarus a while back. Tough old tractors, but the business model - if there ever was one - failed and the brand is now an orphan in the US. But Kubota came into the US at about the same time and now leads the compact market. So it's a roll of the dice.

Being an old Farmall nut myself, I have to like that Mahindra got started in tractor building from a partnership with IH in the 1960's. The first Mahindra's were license built IH designs. Maybe that legacy carries into their current product line somehow.

Not even considering the weight advantage that the 4035 has, it comes std with 1 rear remote with a 2nd one optional. It comes std with draft control, some people say that you don't need draft control and they are right, you don't, but if you know how and when to use it it is a wonderful thing to have. The 4035 has extendable draft links std. There are a few obvious features that are std on the 4035 and are either options on the L3940 or not available at all.

I still say to print out the specs of each tractor and take a good look at them. You still need to at least sit on each machine, doesn't matter if one is better than the other if the one that specs out better is uncomfortable for you. Both will get the job done. Have you considered other makes? If you have other dealers around, you really should check out as many as you can, they all are good machines in my opinion and all the variables need to be taken into consideration.

May I ask how long does one have to be sell a product to get past the just breaking in time frame? Mahindra has been selling tractors in the United States for more than a decade.

His 4110 is a re-badged TYM tractor built in Korea. The 4035 is built by Mahindra in India and would be considered an upgrade from the 4110 in my opinion.

Kubota dealer is 5 miles from home. JD and Mahindra are both about 35 miles away. It's dizzying for someone who is not familair with tractors to consider all brands. I did for a week and then eliminated NH and Kioti and others for various reasons with the main reason being no dealer for those brands within 60 miles. It looked to me like a JD with comparable specs to the 3940 was going to run a couple to several thousand higher. Was pretty much set on Kubota until somone pointed out Mahindra and the potential cost savings for the heavier tractor. Can't confirm those savings yet as I've requested a quote on a 4035 and FEL to see. I appreciate all of this information and will sit in both tractors before making a decision. My biggest problem is being able to compare apples to apples among the different brands. Most equipment in my area is green and I don't know a single Mahindra owner personally so I'm grasping for information. I expect this will be the only tractor new tractor I ever buy so I want one that will last and have the support I need over the long haul. I'll post prices for comparison once I have them.
