My BIL bought a new 1965 Ford F100 stepside for $1500. 1965 basic Mustangs were advertised for $2222. My first new vehicle was a 1978 F100 with a 302, automatic and air but the cheapest model and was a little over $5000. I sold it in 1990 with 100,000 miles, looking and running great with only very minor repairs over the years for almost the same price I paid for it.

And you haven't stopped since! What was that first car, and do you still have it?

First car 1929 Model A and second 1957 Ford... still have them both...

Considering 36 Chevrolet pickup but where to keep it?

I don't have my first car but I have the truck I learned to drive in. A 1947 IHC KB-1 with around 58,000 original miles. My Dad had it restored in the mid 80's and I inherited the truck when he passed away.

That's pretty close. My Dad got a new company pickup...a 1953 Chevrolet 1/2 ton; six cylinder with heater...$1800 and change. Ran like a sewing machine...for an old vehicle. I loved to drive it; not fast, but it was smooth, tight and quiet.

Speaking of carburetors; we bought a new Chrysler Cordoba in 1977 (not Corinthian leather) with a 400 cubic inch V8; it had three new carburetors put on it under warranty...and still only got 10MPH around town.
Horse and Buggy would have been faster. That would have been something to see a horse passing your Chrysler.

... Ford Ranchero pick up.
That carlike pickup reminded me of something I hadn't thought about for years: a 1930 Chrysler Imperial expertly modified into a pickup. It's vertical back wall had been cut off and spliced on right behind the front seat. Excellent bodywork, perfect proprtions, no visible seam. Then behind that a Dodge 3/4 ton bed from the '30's that was a perfect match for the wheelbase, the fenders and the original rear bumper were where they should be. It looked like a proper pickup until you took a second look at the nose and especially the dashboard. They were more elegant than you expect on a pickup. It had been parked for years but with minor tinkering I was able to drive it home. It was elegant. But it had a rod knock and I really didn't need another car, or a major project, so I soon sold it. Today a half century later I wish I had it for my ranch truck.

And one of the favorite moonshiners cars was the 1940 Ford coupe, guess it was because easy to soup up......

I have a headlight ring for one of those. Or it might be to a 40 Merc. I was going to make a wall clock out of it. I did some custom body and paint work for a 1949 Mercury and the owner gave me a few boxes of parts he was going to just toss. I sold the Corvette heads he gave me for $400. :D I think I still have the tools that were in the boxes but I Ebay'ed most of the smaller parts. I kept the headlight ring. I was going to use a motion sensor and turn on an LED in the parking light segment. Just haven't gotten one of those roundtoits. :ashamed:
