Buying Advice Grapples: LP SGC0660 vs EA Wicked 55

   / Grapples: LP SGC0660 vs EA Wicked 55 #31
I love the debates on tbn, they have changed my mind, and help me pick out my tractor and options. So the choice of grapple let's call them long and short, based lower tine length. What struck me is the FEL with 3rd function is a lot like your elbow, wrist, and fingers, lacking rotation. As I looked at my two attachments pallet fork, and bucket they both are like a shovel or your hand palm up. What I wanted a grapple for is I wanted to grab something like palm down curling my fingers toward my thumb. Like reaching up and pulling down vines out of the trees. Stump removal, use short time to tear roots out around the base of tree, top tines to pull root and dirt back, then with lower tines grab the base, close the upper and tilt and rock that stump, then move 90 around the stump and repeat, until I've broken all the roots loose. So short tines let's 3rd function do more work than close to hold.

the EA grapple comes in at a lot less weight than the others. Less weight means you are able to lift more material. stumps, trees, rocks, etc,.

I have the LP and it works good. Didn't have to wait three months to get it and made it part of the package deal. The EA grapple is probably only better in terms of the serrated teeth and yet I can still pick up piles of brush with no problem. Oh and there are some grease zerks on the EA where there are not on the LP. Time will tell if miine collapses into a pile of rubble due to the lack of grease zerks on the upper hinge.
This.
I rolled my LP Into my tractor and was immediately able to use it.
The teeth and grease zerks would have been great, but i love my LP.

You can always drill and tap a hole for a grease jerk. Just. saying. ;). Also.....a little spray grease from time to time on some of these joints would make em last much longer. ....still.....nothing wrong with grading all the moving parts.
