Okay, I finally tried it out this past weekend, but was a bit disappointed in the performance. It handled the bulk pickup and mulched well, but did not leave what I consider as a finished job. The deck was set on the usual 3" height using standard Kubota blades. I am attaching a photo for comparison so maybe you folks can tell me if this is normal or not. I made three passes over this area, at least once with a completely empty bag.

It was the first effort of the season to gather up the leaves. I did not consider my yard to be that heavily covered, but the bag still filled up twice just in my back yard (~8000sqft). That included the leaves I blew out of my plant beds. Guess I would have had to empty the OEM eight times. I have mostly maple and water oak leaves, but some red oak as well.

Maneuverability - Not too good! I knew this thing stuck way out behind my tractor, so I intentionally tried to make wide sweeping turns. Didn't help. Still kept running over shrubs, running into retainer walls, and bumping trees. Great for backing up, but trying to get around plant beds doesn't work!

All in all, after I was left thinking I would have been better off investing $500 in a large volume backpack blower. I have a small backpack blower, but it is not sufficient for blowing leaves in grass. Works well cleaning out plant beds though.

Any suggestions? (already aksed Woodland - no suggestions).

Hate to hear of it's shortcomings in your environment.
I also run the std blades on mine.

When I used the CR for leaf pickup, I dropped down from my normal mowing height of 3" to 2.5". I read somewhere that cutting the grass short for winter was better for it, something about less area to freeze and damage the blades.
At 2.5" my BX23 w/60" MMM and CR seemed to do a very good job of picking up everything I ran over. Perhaps you may try a lower MMM setting.

That CR extends the BX by about 7' and that definitely cuts down on manuverability. Theres a few spots where I couldn't fit either. How I got around that was to side discharge mow in those places in a direction that would blow the clippings out to where I could pick them up with the CR. I don't get it all this way but it gets enough.

When I was collecting grass clippings, I'd side discharge into several windrows then mount the CR and go pick them up. It worked pretty good this way and seemed to cut down on trips.

I believe theres a moneyback garrantee from CR if your not satisfied so thats one option to try if it doesn't work right for you.
There are a several towed vac's that pivot behind the tractor that may be alittle more manuverable for you, backing up would be a pain tho. I did like that Trac Vac with the PTO powered vaccum fan.
The bagger would probably be the most manuverable and give you the smallest footprint but you'll make more trips. Course if one enjoys seat time than more trips could just about be considered a plus.

Good Luck

I was planning on dropping to 2.5" height this weekend to see how that works. The Trac-Vac with two 45gal containers and PTO drive was one of my considerations, but it cost ~$2200+ verses ~$1700+ for the OEM. I spent a total of ~$1900 for the CR, but that included upgrades, accessories, and shipping that the others did not. I will let you know how it all works out.

ToolDad... I have a BX2200 with the bagger and it does a good job on the leaves (much better than the example in your photo). There is a baffle that should be installed near the discharge opening on the deck. Is it possible that it is missing or positioned incorrectly? The only time that I have to make two passes is if the leaves are super deep (6 inches or more). If the leaves are exceptionally dry I get a little blow-by on the chute side of the deck. Other than that, mine does a very good job of picking up leaves.

Pine needles require two passes at slow speed.

Thanks, JWE. Are you saying that you have the OEM bagger? I have seen a baffle mentioned before somewhere. Do you have any more detail on it? This is a Kubota part you are describing, right?

Yes it is a Kubota OEM bagger.
I will try to take some pictures tonoght and post them.

ToolDad

Here is a picture of the baffle. It is part of the instal kit that comes with the bagger.

Hope this helps.

I don't have that on mine with the OEM bagger. Hmmm...

Been out of touch for a while with TBN. Thought I would give an update.

Cyclone Rake vacuumed grass well. Based on earlier posted concerns, I invked the 6 month return policy. CR gave me no hassles at all.

Replaced with the OEM bagger. Manuverability is MUCH better and it vacuums at least as well, though I have not yet been through leaf season. Just have to empty a lot more often.:( The OEM boot adds to improved manuverability as well. The documentation was REALLY POOR (hear that Kubota??). Also, looks like you have to remove one of the bag support brackets to access one of the gear boxes for lube servicing (can that be for real??). Connecting it by myself was a little tricky until I learned some tricks like using a floor jack in just the right place.

Had to have the gear box seals replaced (under warranty!) after about two uses. Seems to be okay so far since then.

Generally happy with this unit and cost was about the same (~$1750).

Got bagger for BX-2230 several months ago and documentation was poor and they changed the bboot kit for the 60inch deck. There is no baffle at the chute opening and the now have a plate at the leading edge that bolts on. The attachment does not use a rubber cord but hooks over inner edge of deflector and locks in place with a thumb screw. Has anyone tried mounting the catcher with the three point hooked up for lifting the catcher and then disconnecting the links after it is mounted instead of using jacks or other things?
