4 inch blocks for the dividing walls in the pit. the man in the supply yard kinda overloaded my bro's hilux. when he sees this photo he wont be impressed. there is 96 blocks on the back .its only supposed to carry 750kg max.

this is the second half of the head wall. didnt have enough plywood so had to do it in two sections.

Walls built to divide the pit into two sections. This means that a separate pit can be used each year. this will allow time for the grass and other stuff to rot and turn to compost.would putting worms into it help it to degrade better??

Looks good, Ronan. In my part of the world we'd call that a double compost bin instead of a grass pit, but the purpose is the same. Not too many people go to the trouble of building something that nice, but it's certainly a very good idea.

Great looking pit you have there.

Now I'm the first to admit I don't know much about composting. I think you have to put a LOT of brown stuff in with the grass clippings to make compost though. And I hope you aren't putting a back wall on the pit. If you did that, then I think you'd have the world's biggest mosquito swamp when it filled up with water! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif As you probably know, wet grass turns REALLY foul when it gets moldy.

Very nice looking compost pit my friend.

Made a few the easy way for our own use. Since we get a lot of free wood pallets we tie them together using short pieces of romex wire to form an open top box of sorts. Then we fill them with anything that is organic like grass, corn stalks, hay, and waste from meal preparation.

Once the mix has been broken down into compost we pull the wires out holding the pallets together, pull the pallets out and use the FEL to move the mound to wherever it's needed.

The cycle then starts over again to make a fresh pile.

I wouln't put worms in it unless you want to cook them. I have had grass piles burn. Or at least smolder really good.
