I am about to tackle seeding a new lawn, approx 5 acres (new construction). My dealer will rent me a Harley rake preseeder and a Gill overseeder. He does not rent a primary seeder light enough for my Kubota B7800 to pull. Any thoughts on whether the overseeder will do the job?. Doesnt seem like the right tool for the job and I will have quite a bit of money invested in seed and fertilizer for my lawn not to come in right. Any opinions will be appreciated.

Not a landscaper, but think you can use a roller to press seed into well prepared ground. After spreading rye/bermuda etc, I drag 10' of weighted chainlink fence after spreading seed to cover it, but that's on freshly cleared land, not a lawn.

As was mentioned, a roller really works well. I think it increases germination rate tremendously. If there is bare soil showing, and it is worked up fairly well and leveled, then seed broadcast onto it maybe in two directions to get it even, then rolled in good and hard. the close contact with the soil really helps.
