No, an ounce of gold is measured in troy ounces, which equals 31.1034768 grams (1.097142857143 oz.), but there are 12 troy ounces per troy pound, (373.24 g) rather than the 16 ounces per pound (453.59 g). A "regular" ounce weighs 28.3495 grams and there are 16 per pound.

OK, you got me there... but an avoirdupois once of gold and an avoirdupois (regular) ounce of styrofoam beads would weigh the same as well as a troy ounce of gold and a troy ounce of styrofoam beads would weight the same. That was my point in reference to what LD1 said.
I didn't see your point about weighing gold using the troy system.. But I do now, and I stand corrected.
