If you grease your PTO shaft why not grease your balls while you are at it? They are right there.

A condom on the ball will prevent catching rust from borrowed trailer hitches.

There is something to be said about keeping your equipment maintained and prepared for strange hitches.

How about the balls on your 3 point arms, anyone grease those?
Yup. I occasionally spray them with white lithium grease. Same with the pivot points on the Equalizer WD system.

I don't grease my ball at all. While i have a small household trailer which I use say twice a year most of the time I'm using it to support my cycle rack. My Ebike weights 25kg and i want that rack locked on tight

Hello,
I'll add my 2 cents.......I use wheel bearing grease.

Had the gooseneck off the dually yesterday for the first time in a couple weeks. (Driven daily) It got a dose of grease on the ball before hooking back up. The squeaking the last couple of days now gone. Not had any issues in years since we started greasing them. Probably not required but sure not hurting anything. Thought about this thread while I was unwrapping the rag front he end of the grease gun thats kept in the tool rack on the trailor :)

I use the same Schaeffer 5th Wheel lube that I use on my semi truck 5th wheel. Easy spray can application.

When I was an equipment mechanic, the bosses told us:

Pintle hitches do NOT get grease. They used to and it attracted too much trash.

Fifth wheel on the semis get grease, but they get pressure washed and re-greased with every pm.

We replaced a few pintle eyes a year due to wear. I saw quite a few with some metal transfer. Also heard a ton of squeaky ones.

I have never done anything to my 2 5/16 or 2 hitches. I do clock them and look at them before use to see if they moved. My towing probly amounts to 10,000 mi per few years, so I'm not an effective example. Dad had a cut open tennis ball on his because of grease. I remember noticing no other vehicles I saw were like that.

My dad had one of those little rubber molded covers for his hitch. Ball was also greased.
