Heehaw, I'm afraid there really isn't much difference in that regard. If you get an air pocket in either one, the result is the same; no grease coming out.

Based on your experience, I went to Harbor Freight yesterday and bought their pneumatic grease gun ($11.99). Greased everything in sight, two tractors, mower deck, backhoe, front loader, and my two trucks. Two tubes of grease later I can say a really like it. It gives you a free hand to hold the fitting in place. The hard to reach spots are much easier. Also, I noticed grease ouzzed (sp) out in more places .
