Grease on hands? I hate that!

That reminds me of the difference between "office worker" and outside worker: the guy that works outside washes his hands before he goes to the bathroom.

Reminds me of the difference between a farmer and an engineer:

The farmer has the BS on the OUTSIDE of his boots.

Just discovered food service plastic gloves. They are cheap and they give good protection from grease when wanting to do a quick grease job and don't want grease all over hands, steering wheel and everywhere else. Also saves on water, cleaners and sink mess.

I have used regular gloves, qucikly soaking with grease, rubber gloves, which I hate to wear and no gloves; cleaning up when done. I also hate to pick up greasey tools when starting a new job. My tools are cleaned when done with a job. However, I can't count the times I have loaned out tools and got tools back dirty. Worse yet, how do you count the tools never returned?

Try those food service gloves. Hey....One can even be prepared, in advance, for a job at Burger King.

I dont like gloves much unless its leather for ruf work. The various impermeable gloves are no ruf protection, are slippery, catch and tear easily, and get quickly slimy inside as well. I try to take steps to keep from getting sticky in the 1st place. Wrapping the body of a grease gun in newspaper helps, along with a "clean waste" container where you can promptly squeegie small leftover blobs off onto the rim. That and a paper towel keeps it from getting to the point of sticky slicky hand and tools.

I would take grease, oil, cow manure or a dozen other things on my hands over dishwater any day.
That has to be the nastiest substance on earth.

True. I remember when we used Trich daily and never wore gloves. That stuff was bad. MEK we still use but use MPK more.
I always use gloves for that stuff.
That is why Iso Alcohol is used these days for degreasing it is more friendly.
Hey Aeroshell 14 is Calcium based wonder if it is bad for you??

I get a kick out of reading old aircraft mechanic's stories and experiences. I too spent way too many hours without protective gear exposed to Hazardous Materials such as Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), Carbon Technichloride, Trichlorethylene (TCE), Powdered Asbestos, and many others.

I started in the Aviation Business full time in the USAF in the 1950s channeling out on the Boeing B29. After 6 years in the USAF working all over this planet on everything that flew, or wanted to fly, I continued in civilian life both flying or wrenching and finally retired after 50+ years. I finished up (am still involved) as an Aviation Consultant spending a lot of time all over Russia (on both sides of the Urals and all over Siberia) evaluating and consulting in aviation factories. I held most FAA Aviation Certificates on the Flight and Maintenance end plus was an Independent DME (Designated Mechanic Examiner, Airframe and Powerplant)
