Well I see most on here don't turn wrenches for a living!
Grease doesn't bother me. I have made my living working on aircraft for decades and I guess it just doesn't bother me.

As a Hazmat guy, and an Aviation mechanic for the past 25 or so years, you left out one of the most important words at the end of your sentence.

Please folks, the less exposure you have to chemicals in general, the better off you are. Small steps that you take now, can delay or even prevent problems in the future and many chemicals that you handle often with "no problem" can later in life cause problems.

And yes, I have a spot of Pro-seal (polysulfide) on my wrist at the moment that has been wearing off about the past week. :D

True. I remember when we used Trich daily and never wore gloves. That stuff was bad. MEK we still use but use MPK more.
I always use gloves for that stuff.
That is why Iso Alcohol is used these days for degreasing it is more friendly.
Hey Aeroshell 14 is Calcium based wonder if it is bad for you??

It scares me what the Air Force used when I was in... I spent 8 hrs in the wheel well of a F4 Phantom with some soap washing it; later that "soap" was replaced with something that didn't work as well, but was safer, I hope.

For me keeping my hands clean when working makes it easier if you go from a greasy job to a inside the car job with light interior.

Maybe it's the "finger lickin' good" part:eek:

lol. That reminds me. I was at our shop a few months ago fooling with my backhoe, I had hydraulic oil all over my hands.

My mom stopped by with some cooked chicken from Dillons. She asked me if I wanted some. :licking: I said h*** yeah.

I reached in and grabbed a chicken leg. My mom was speechless. She said ain't ya gonna wash your hands first? I told her no. Why there just gonna get oily again.

I ate that chicken leg with hydraulic and motor oil on it. Ain't the first time though, I've ate with greasy, dirty and oily hands since I started wrenching at age 6.

Done that ever since. I'm surprised I ain't sick or dead yet.

Oh by the way I just fixed some tater tots and am eating them with my hands oily right now. lol

I really need to stop doing that and wash my hands first. I guess it's just a habit I can't seem to break.

PS. Ate with gas on my hands too.

You can get the nitrile gloves in purple they are better than the blue. they are stronger and don't tear as easily. Back in my twenties working in the petrol industry yea we used to walk around with stuff you can't even pronounce all over your hands and you could smell it all the time. Well if you can smell it your breathing it and if it's on you it's probably being absorbed thru your skin. So when your forty and your hands are all curled up and you got some kinda toxin in your blood or some weird spot growing on your prostate, you can tell us all about being a tough guy then. if wearing gloves makes me a fairy so be it. Just don't make me wear the little wings and tutu:laughing:

heck.. I wear em for 2 good reasons. 1, hard to get the stuff out from under the fingernails, and 2, as soon as my hands get greasy.. I either have ta pee or the phone rings.

gloves are cheap enough to peel one off and toss to take care of business.. or BUSINESS. :)

That reminds me of the difference between "office worker" and outside worker: the guy that works outside washes his hands before he goes to the bathroom.
