Makes me wonder how they lay these ships up for the winter? I'm assuming it's not like a seasonal cabin, boat, or rv. That Would be a lot of rv antifreeze

And think about this...

That shipping canal is listed as 125' wide at it's narrowest point, and 20' deep at it's shallowest point. The Mesabi Miner is 1004' long, 105' wide, and can draw a draft of 29' deep. So it has to be relatively empty to traverse that canal, and only has 10' of clearance on both sides at the narrowest part of the canal. That's a close shave.

The American Century pulled into Duluth, or Superior WI today to tie up for the winter. Lots of help from two tugs to get backed in. The tugs to AC conversations are extensive.

Sitting kind of low in the water seems to me... I would have expected to see the screws and the top of the rudder axle, but he could have his ballast tanks loaded.

Certainly needs some Rustoleum on the hull too...

The Sam Laud up-bound at the Soo heading for the Algoma steel works. Who says boats quit working for the winter? Seems all his paint would be scrapped off.
