Greatest Product? How about the Worst Invention!

Re: Greatest Product? How about the Worst Inventi

I hit the Reply button on the most convenient post - this isn't directed at you, Taylor.

This thread has strayed, don't you think? I believe it's wrong to say that "this music is bad" or "this music is better." My philosophy is that all music starts out being wonderful. From there, all that's left is opinion. I have mine, too.

As for lyrics, that's all they are. Just like the paint on a canvas, the images depicted can be peaceful and kind or chaotic and violent - this doesn't make the painting good or bad.

The noise issue is another story. That's just a matter of respect and courtesy. I must say that I have never been bothered by anyone blasting "The Barbour of Seville" on their car stereo, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be as equally offended should it ever happen.

low rider cars? not sure that is an invention....believe them to be a style. they are impractical and silly, but not the worst invention ever.

boom boxes...yeah they are pretty sill too.

body piercings? they arent a recent invention. they have been around since antiquity. the hebrews had them, many tribes in africa have had them, the Nords had them, the Aztecs, the Incas, the Mayans, the native americans...shall i go on?

oh and rap not an invention....it is a creation, an evolution of jazz.

Websters defines and invention as: a discovery or finding, a divece contrivance, or process originate after study or experiment.

Yes its strayed quit a bit lol. Im a bit easy to side track, im gonna blame it on ADD lol. Its kinda hard for me to express my feelings by typing but i didnt mean to down rap i do like the beat to some of it, just not the way some folks play it where foul launguage can be plainly inapropriate and offensive. Like a few weeks ago at church some teens sarted listening to a cd and it wasnt apropriate as the lyrics contained some 4 letter words and such that could be heard plainly inside the fellowship hall. Thats like at a stop lights when i have my windows down ill turn the radio down or roll the window up to keep from disturbing others.

As far as body piercing I was thinking in our society.
Technically you are right for the most part .But how did you come to the conclusion Rap is an evolution of jazz.I never heard that,I do not know of anything that sounds like rap(thank goodness)

Not such an unimaginable stretch, really...I think Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock are a link in that chain.

Wow, how did this evolve into a discussion on music and pop culture?

I guess I do not follow jazz enough to have drawn that conclusion.
You learn something new everyday.

Re: Greatest Product? How about the Worst Inventi

I'll take exception to the connection between rap and jazz. I like jazz... have been a fan for years. Rap... not so much.

I think there's a more direct link between disco and rap than anything. Rap began with record scratching at the DJ booth in clubs. DJ's aren't noted as singers but they can speak rythmically and rhyme words. Put the two together and you have the origins of rap.
