"What part of the country are you in? Your profile is a little thin.

Pete"

Pete, I'm in the souther part of Orange County New York, south of Newburgh/Washingtonville.

I posted early to you (but lost it) about your mentioning of coyotes. They are becoming a problem. Let's discuss in another thread if u like.

Exactly Terry. The Small Farmers Wagon from Country Manufacturing.

So far, that lil wagon with a jack dump has been indispensable! Reasonably priced with real poor assembly instructions. (The jack assembly required 3 attempts, but I finally figured it out).

Thinkin about there lil manure spreader too, totally mechanical, anything larger for me might be overkill.

DAP,

Thank you for the link. May have to show this to the CFO.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

You live near Newburgh and are having problems with coyotes!! Dang.

I have not heard of any coyote problems in our area (yet!!). One would think that they'd be a problem in Western Maryland. Hmmm... have to ask some of our farmer friends if they've heard anything. Nah... must not. Too many feral cats and one neighbor raises sheep. I would think that during lambing I would have heard something.

Terry AND BOONDOX

There's a state park near me called Harriman. The apparent geniuses decided the white tail populations were too high (really? duh) and concocted a hybrid: half western coyote/half gray wolf. The hybridization worked and they introduced them into the park with the intention of controlling the white tail populations. Well, the deer saw the 'yotes and hightailed it for the nearest suburbs.

Guess what.

The 'yotes went with em. They're taking small dogs, cats, and becoming carrion as roadkill all over the place.

We have a couple of horses. I don't think there a threat to them, but hearing 7-10 of those things 30 yards from the house in the wee hours sure gets my attention (perhaps this will fade with time).

Its amusing when guests are over and the blood curdling sounds of a nearyby pack start ringing out ....

"What the F**K IS THAT??????? is the most oft used phrase.

The 2910 is smaller than the 4300, which is smaller than a 3010. I like the size of the 4300 and wish Kubota had a tractor that size. As for JD, I too would wait to the new series. If you only have 6 acres and you are going to belly mow all that lawn with your tractor, I would say the 2910 is the best choice. Lightest, most maneuverable, and easiest mmm to attach/detach. (3010 is worst re mmm attachment.)

I think of the 2910 as an estate maintenance tractor (mowing and clearing is the main duty), and the 3010 as a contractor's tractor (lifting, hauling, digging, pulling is the main duty). The 4300 is a nice in-between size and a good plan design, but I dont like the way JD implemented its design. Too many problems, defects and inconveniences.

Sounds like another Dept of Fish and Game legend to me. Right up there with these:

1) My favorite: Fish and Game is secretly hatching rattlesnakes and repopulating rural areas where they have been eliminated.

2) Relevant to my line of work: Fish and Game has introduced a genetic superfish that looks just like a bass, but won't bite.

3) Pick a version: Fish and Game has secretly introduced panthers/bears/wolves to reduce the deer/elk/moose herd.

What I don't understand: The more fantastic the stories, the more people you hear them from. I guess if enough people repeat it, it must be true. Everyone loves conspiracy theories (me too/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif)

My suggestion, call the park and ask the manager about it. Chances are, they are just regular coyotes. If they are hybrids, I would be very surprised if their release was sanctioned by the NY Department of Environmental Conservation (i.e. NY Game and Fish).

I thought that the hybrid story seemed a little out of place. I don't think NY needs to re-introduce any coyotes - they are already all over the place, and have been for as long as I can remember. They tend to mirror the deer population (imagine that/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif). Right now the deer population is at its peak - upstate anyway. We have a coyote den nearby, and they sure do make a commotion when they get to howling at night. They don't tend to pack up around here, since there is not that much continuous land (lots of country, but broken up by roads and fences). Also, hunters around here tend to kill them when they see them, especially in packs. They're just part of the natural landscape we live with (by choice). They stay out of the suburban housing tracts, unless you live in the row adjacent to the woods. They're not anywhere near as brave as deer around people, and domestic dogs in a yard are pretty good at keeping them at bay.
