I've just wasted several hours due to using Slime "Skabs."

Slime Skabs Pre-Glued Patch Kit at REI.com

I live a long ways from anywhere. I got a hole in an innertube on my lawn tractor. The glue in my regular patch kit dried up, so I went to the local store / gas station. No patch kits available, but they had some Slime Skabs. I realize these are designed for bicycle tires -- but my bike tires get filled to 70 lbs. My lawn tractor tires get filled to 15 lbs.

I had two holes in the innertube. I patched them with the Skabs, which seemed to work. I blew the innertube up, and no leaks. I put it back inside the tire, and inflated it. It leaked. I took it back out, and no leaks. I did that several times and found no leaks. I finally blew the innertube up to about four times its normal size, and sure enough, both of the Skabs started to leak.

Not wanting to drive an hour round trip, I cut out pieces from an old innertube and glued it with some Elmer's rubber cement. So far, so good.

I've never used the patches, but the regular Slime products have worked great for me on bicycle, wheelbarrow, and trailer tires. I keep a few spare bottles around and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again even for something like my lawn mower. JP.

JP -- yes, I should qualify my statement from above. I really like Slime, and I always have a large bottle around. I have it in a lot of tires around the farmstead. I'm just cautioning people not to try and use the Slime Skabs in anything important -- except maybe a bicycle tire.

Thanks,
