You can mount and have operational on a JD a fel, a mmm and a backhoe at the same time. You cannot have a backhoe and a mmm on a Kubota or NH at the same time and have them both be functional, as far as I know. A subframe hoe will interfere with a mmm on a Kubota; and a 3ph hoe on a Kubota will lock a mmm in place so it cannot be raised or lowered althought it can be on the tractor.

The virtues of a mmm vs. a rmm have been outlined by others, and elswhere on this forum, many times. The JD mmm is relatively easy to remove, but not something you would want to to frequently.

As to tires, I believe the turf tires on the JD might actually have a larger diameter than the R4's, and hence provide more ground clearance, depending on what size JD you are getting. Check this carefully with your dealer. I have R4s on my Kubota 2910 and dont like them. If I were doing mostly lawn work, as I do, I would go with turfs. If I were doing mostly field work, dirt implement engaging work, and/or fel work, I would go with R1 ags.

One other thing on the JD mmm. It is controlled by a cable connected lever that is quite cheesy and that has been widely criticized by JD owners. It doesnt return to center position properly, is difficult to feather, and the handle frequently comes off in your hand. This is being remedied in the new 4010 series.

I think anyone who wants to buy a JD now would be well advised to wait a month or so to see exactly what the new series offers. If you like JD, you might like the new series a lot better and be sorry you didnt wait. My nickel.

I beg to differ. With my 4100, it is a snap. Usually 5 minutes or less. No sense in having it attached when not in use.

Au contraire.... At least with the 4100, the MMM is controlled via links coming off of the 3ph. Control is easy and effective. As far as the other 4x00 series, this may be true.

Giving you .03 cents in change.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hi. Does anyone know when the new 4x10 series tractors are coming out from JD? I was curious, because if it's not that far around the corner I'll wait and see what they have to offer.

Terry, I'm not familiar with the 4100 mmm. My observations are based on the 72" mmm on the midframe JDs, which require you to remove 5 or 6 links as well as completely removing one of the gauge wheels so the deck can slide sideways. I timed the dealer at about 10 minutes to do the whole thing.

Yes, you can have the JD mmm hooked to the 3ph, but then you cant use the mower with a backhoe or independently of a rear implement. To be able to do these things on the midframes, you get a third SCV, which is operated by the cable connected lever mounted on the right fender. This is how JD gets to truthfully claim they have the only design that allows a backhoe or rear implement to be independent of and operationally compatible with their mmm. I dont recall which system the large frame JDs use for the mmm.

Yes, that is true about not being able to keep the MMM mounted and use an implement attached to the 3ph. Another issue is that the MMM ground clearance could hinder your 3ph implement usage depending upon the task at hand. I like to remove the unused implements and keep it simple. Having to think about the FEL, MMM, and x implement hanging off the back of the tractor is just too much sensory overload for me during tractor operations. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

And quite honestly, I just can't imagine mowing the lawn with a FEL, MMM, and backhoe all attachec. Heck, you can almost double the length of your tractor!!!
