Hoss, so I stand corrected as well, I see where Hoss came from now, you are a good one to bring to a bar in the bad side of town./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yes with someone with your size of feet it would be very difficult to use the brakes without the cruise on the Kubota HST.

So Kubota should go back to the drawing board on that one. Still can use the brakes but not as easy if it was placed on the left side.

How were the pedals placed on the Case?

...What would you personally recommend...

Personally... I would blacktop the entire area that you intend to mow... and then paint it "grass" green... /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Or do as my buddy does with his home... use a 12' batwing mower for the bulk and a couple JD riding mowers for closeup and trim...

Gee Gads that's one heck of a place you got there. I would blacktop that whole area for sure if I had to mow it with my craftsman 48" cutter. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gifNow if I had the right equipment I would love to mow it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Gordon,
I was trying to remember that when I typed up my last reply. This was about 26 years ago, so memory of the Case isn't very good. Not sure it would even be relevant as the Case was a shuttle-shift and not hydro, but a friend of mine just bought a 580L, so next time I'm around it, I'll take a look as to pedal placement.

{Personally, I don't own a finish mower, but have borrowed a friend's KingKutter 6' unit-we do a lot of swapping around here /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif}

Really, it is different for each individual... for me, with multiple tractors, I would have a 3-Point hitch finish mower that could be used on any machine. I can sell one tractor, buy another and the 3-Point mower would still function on the new tractor... I wouldn't be able to do that with a proprietary mid-mount mower.

For example, I bought a used Satoh tractor with mid-pto installed, but no mower...It would be a miracle if I could now locate a mid-mount mower to use with it...and if I did, I would have to fill out the loan papers at the bank to pay for it... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

You can pay $3000 for a dedicated mid-mount mower that owes it life to one and only tractor...or pay $1000. for a 6' KingKutter 3-Point, take the wife and kid's out to dinner and a round of miniature golf and still have $1950. leftover for other 3-Point implements you're gonna need... /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

If a mid-mount is gonna cost up to $3000 more than a rear-mount then forget it! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif I will go with the rear-mount if that's gonna be the case.

Yep, I agree with John about the MMM on larger JD's.

With the 4100, a mid-PTO is standard. On 4200 and above, it is an option. The cost differential between a 54" and 60" MMM for the 4100 was several hundred dollars. Hard to justify an extra 6" of mowing for the money.

As far as estimating what size tractor you need, I considered a 4200 but went with the 4100 because I didn't want to spend the extra money. Hindsight being 20-20, I probably should have gone with a larger unit. Why you may ask, because of some of the tasks required. I will be plowing and tilling quite a bit and the extra horsepower would be nice. Didn't quite understand the concept at first, but I now know better. I'll wait a year or so and trade up. I've been preparing the CFO and have been putting together my business plan. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I like the MMM, but I could forgo it to put the money where it is needed - into the tractor.

Cowboy - please tell me about your pallet forks - are they the type where you remove your bucket and repalce w/ the pallet fork attachement or ? Assume you have a 460 JD Loader - I priced the pallet fork attachement and was told little over $1k - seemed a little pricey but then everything costs more than I think it should.

gvw,
Yes they are the ones from jd and you will not be disappointed. I got mine for about $850. The price you are saying is full retail. For the good pallet forks to lift my round bales the lowest quote I had gotten was $550.

Do you do or know anybody that does fab work? I've found carriage assemblies with forks from junked forklifts for around $200. I figure another $100 or so for brackets if you have to have them built and you'll be good to go.
