Greenhouse effect ???

There are going to be a few cold pockets somewhere on the earth. The earth is getting warmer and has been for several years. Just because of a little brisk weather in Russia this cannot be denied.

It sure is, according to a news story on Chicago's WLS radio, the earth has warmed 1 degree in the last 100 years.

I always remember what the World's Greatest Weatherman , the late Harold Taft (Dallas area folks remember him well) used to say. "Normal is simply the average of the extremes". Every year somewhere there are new cold record temps set and every year there are new heat record temps set.

Another good one was "The time to predict snow in Texas is when you see it falling". Sure miss his forcasts. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The Earth has been continously warming up allot over the last 5,000 years or so (ever since humans began to speak and write) when the Great Lakes were Great Sheets of ice over a mile thick and all of the Mid-West was a mile underneath the ice.

Sure did allow some excellent dirt to come up to the surface for planting agricultural crops though!

"Don't worry about global warming, it'll be offset by nuclear winter LOL /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I remember back in the late 1970's we had some severe/bad winters (1977/78/79) and they said we were going back into the ice age. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

When I was in 4th grade my Weekly Reader at school proclaimed the coming of the next ice age. The teacher explained that the earth was getting colder and someday we would need winter coats year round. I remember being upset about this because who wants to wear their winter coat during summer vacation? By the time I graduated high school the New Ice Age had passed and we were now worried about global warming.

When Mt St Helen erupted scientists told us that the ash would remain in the atmosphere for years blocking the sun's warmth from reaching the ground and lowering the surface temps, didn't happen. When the Iraqis lit all the oil fields on fire in Kuwait similar claims were made. Again they didn't pan out.

Alarmist claims like global warming, global cooling or asteroids hitting the earth are necessary if you have any hope of getting a research grant. All you have to do is follow the money.

Back in the 1930's during the great depression and the dust bowl era, they had some of the hottest driest weather ever in the Ohio Valley. The old timers would cut a tree down during the summer months so there cattle could eat leaves off of the tree because the pastures were dried up. They would take there gas powered Maytags (if they had one or could afford one) took the creeks if they could find a water hole to get water from and do the laundry. One old guy I knew had a good spring on his farm and people would come for 2 or 3 miles to get drinking water and take home with them. A winter drought is as bad as a summer drought for some of the guys getting water from the streams for there cattle, you bust a hole in the ice and the next day you bust another hole in the ice and a few days goes by and the cattle cannot hardly reach the water when you bust the hole open again because the water level is dropping and you have no stream to replenish the hole. The cattle will eventually have to get down on there knees to reach the water.
