Groundhogs in trees ???

This post has nothing to do with tractors, but I just had to ask ! Has anyone ever seen a groundhog climb a tree?? I watching these three groundhogs in my yard today and all of a sudden, one of them climbed up to the top of a tree just like a cat !! I' didn't think they could do that? I've been at war with the little buggers for months now and I think they are planning an aerial assault !

Back in the 70,s we would set on my dad's porch and watch the groundhogs climb in the neighbor's tree. I think, from what i've seen, only the younger ones climb. Never saw a big one try that.

We had a problem a few years ago with groundhogs undermining our outbuildings. I caught two of them up in a mulberry tree sleeping after (I assume) gorging themselves on the fruit. Makes 'em a lot easier target than when they're on the hoof!

Yes they do, they are easy targets if you catch them in a tree as you can just wait for them to come down then dispose of them by whatever means you think is right. Shooting them out of the tree is quite easy as long as you don't shoot a neighbors house. Take care

You bet they will climb them....use to have a dog that would tree them regulary,that is not an uncommon practice.

We had a flash flood around here a few years ago and this lady climbed into a tree because she got starnded in the high water and this ground climber right up the same tree and set on an adjacent branch,both were in this tree surrounded by a flash flood./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I have seen the little ones doing the same thing this year. It makes for easy picking with the old 22 when they’re in the trees. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
