Thanks, Farmgirl19! P.S. Dolly Parton's really big over here, especially in Britain. Her enthusiasm about life is so infectious! My favorite quote is "You'd be surprised how much it costs to look this cheap!"

I love Dolly's outlook on life! And yes, I agree, her enthusiasm is infectious!

From your pictures I recognized the Haflinger right away...

We have breeders here in the States for Haflingers and maybe one day...

I've never seen one with a bad disposition and they are very versatile.

My brother is strictly a Rush Creek Arabian rider... started the 100 mile rides across Nevada and the Tevis cup from Lake Tahoe to Auburn.

Is yours a hobby farm or do you raise product to sell?

I posted in my other thread pictures and videos from Steyr Oldtimers... one had over 1350 together.

Hobby farm. The girls ride the Haflinger, and we have a two-wheel sulky as well. He's a loveable doofus.

My nieces are horse crazy... they love Haflingers.

They told me I would never ever have to give them another present ever if I gave them a Haflinger...

Welcome aboard from Texas. Your english is better than mine.

Central Texas is the home of many German descendants, of which I am one. However, there were periods (mainly WWI and WWII) where speaking german was verboten around here. It was politically frowned upon and brought unwanted negative feelings from non German descendants. Thus, the sub-culture language has almost died entirely. I know only a few words.

That deer was an awesome trophy! Are there "fenced in" hunting areas over there where the deer are bred for superiority? They have them here. I would love to see a pic of him on the wall, next to an authentic German coo coo clock (or whatever they are locally called).

The American branch of my family moved to Pennsylvania Dutch Country in the early 1700s. My older relatives were the last of my extended family to still speak the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect, although my mother-in-law over here speaks a Plattdeutch dialect that's similar, so at least my kids know what it sounds like (it's a bit different than modern German Hochdeutsch). Germans certainly know about New Braunfels etc. in Texas, and anyone who's ever tasted Shiner Bock gets to know what good is!

The deer roam freely in the forests, although there are a few enclosures near populated areas. However, the area in which my wife grew up is special ... it's so large a swath of forest that they just re-introduced European Bison into the wild after raising them in a fenced-in area for a few years. I'll try to snap a photo of the mounted head next time I'm up there. Until then, here's a wild boar my father-in-law shot and had mounted. P1060023.JPG P.S. Cuckoo clocks are Swiss! My father-in-law's trophy room has a big wind-up grandfather clock, which are more common in Germany, at least in the countryside.
